Ocean's Surprise Announcement

GT City Tour is presented as a San Francisco Rush-like driving game based on the tweaked Multi Racing Championship engine.

A surprise at yesterday's Ocean/Infogrames meeting, GT City Tour is a San Francisco Rush-like driving game for the PlayStation based on a tweaked Multi Racing Championship (MRC) engine.

With eight fully customizable cars, 12 separate tracks (plus bonus), and numerous drivers whose personalities affect gameplay (a spokesperson indicated that there may well be an announcement at E3 about whether or not these drivers will be based on real-life drivers), GT City Tour is the "transitional step" between MRC and MRC 2, according to the producer.

It is not, he emphasized, a retrofitted, slapdash version of MRC on asphalt, but a new game with a heavily tweaked engine - tweaked mostly in the area of control, and truth be told it did handle significantly differently from MRC. The producer indicated that the game was close to being finished - the MRC team has been working on the GT City Tour engine for the last seven months - so you may be able to look for it in the third quarter of this year.
