Oblivion expands early on XBL

First full-sized add-on to Bethesda's Xbox 360 epic role-playing game on Marketplace a day early, PC version due in stores tomorrow.

Bad news for Xbox 360 role-playing game fans looking to get some last-minute chores done tonight before they delve into the first expansion for the time-consuming The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion--the add-on has launched a day early.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles is now on Xbox Live Marketplace and available for download for 2,400 Microsoft points ($30). The content-heavy expansion, which Bethesda says takes 30 hours to complete and was scheduled for release tomorrow, will occupy a fair amount of the console's hard drive, as it takes up 993.75MB of space.

Those looking to start exploring the new realm of Sheogorath had better get to downloading The Shivering Isles soon--Microsoft has scheduled downtime for Xbox Live for Tuesday beginning at 12:01 a.m. PDT. The maintenance is expected to take approximately 14 hours.

The PC version is being distributed in retail and should be on store shelves tomorrow. For more on Shivering Isles, read GameSpot's previous coverage or check back soon for a full review.

shadystxxx No, every hardrive has a certian amount of space resevred for system memory or something, even the hard drives you buy for you pc, i have a 250 gb harddrive but its maxium space is 242gb. ========================================================= It is actually because of the way Windows organises the allocation for the hard drive, rather than the data mysteriously being taken away for system use.

her mauro_rubens- I have the same problem- I can't install any plugins. I was going to write for help, but I guess there is not much point. Mind you, this is the Xbox 360 section, not the PC one. Good ol' Xbox live :)

I downloaded it yesterday. It took 20mins and it caused me exactly NO problems whatsoever. And at approx.

I have to complain about Bethesda and their co works... This is an e-mail I'd send them back in January, 05 "Hi... you guys at obliviondownloads. I've downloads all of those packs bellow listed and I could not install any one. In everyone I activate the product they never finish installing and even crash my PC System. I would like to get them all in a CD Media. Just lest me know about charging for delivery. I love so much those games since Arena and I even bought Morrowind and Morrowind GOTY and then Oblivion Special Edition Collector for XBox AND PC. I just beg you, don't let me down. Thank you. Mauro Rubens from São Paulo, Brasil" PS. I hope to hear from you soon". I am still waiting for an answer. I got those products: the Wizard's Tower - DLC3, the Knights of the Nine - DLC8, The Spell Tomes - DLC4 the Mehrunes' Razor and the The Thieves Den... Perhaps, because I am from Brasil, do you think I should let it go? No way. What do you do when you send an e-mail for support and you got nothing? I am so pissed off with Bethesda Softworks, that I am going to shout out the way they support their costumers. Beware Bethesda, I am going to complain about this matter up to E- Commerce, so you answer to me about this, because I want to have those products working.

it took 2 hours to download it though i restarted it to be fair since im basicly imortal i have only played close to 8 hours and well im sure this is going to be a new adventure for me since that door is where im headed when im strong enogh im not sure what is on the other side but im sure its going to be fun since if i beat this game 6 times this 1 will be the best.

KuroriKenshin wow glad I never actually bought the game for the 360, with all the expansions and this its basically like buying the full retail price of the game twice ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why are so many gamers so stupid, fanboyism most rot your brain cells. That comment should go into a sig(umm my sig infact, its the funniest thing ive ever heard) No its not like buying two games, you buy the full retail game for 40 pound($60) and can play that for over 200 hours, then bethasda make expansion packs to make a great expieirence even longer. Its really like buying one great full price game, and buying another great game for half the price, this 30 hour expansion is almost three times the zize of you average game, like gears of war,god of war for example. Its not like you buy the game get so far and a menu pops up and say hold on you cannot play this game untill you pay for the expansions we have put out. I bet your so pleased you didnt buy this game and the expansion as who would want 250 hours of one of the greatest next gen games available. Just reading posts of forums is hard work, as its hard to understand what goes through peoples head that makes comments like this one.

Isakovic I bought 20 gig HD and once I plugged in it showed oinly 13 gig? Whats up with that. I am guessing once you buy 120 gig for 200$ which is insane, you going to get 60? Shame, shame, shame... ======================================================= No, every hardrive has a certian amount of space resevred for system memory or something, even the hard drives you buy for you pc, i have a 250 gb harddrive but its maxium space is 242gb. The 120GB hard drive WONT only have 60GB of space it will probably have around 110-113 GB of space, assuming it would need 60GB for other things is really stupid and shows how bright you are. Or making a comment like that because your a fanboy is also stupid. Either way you look at it most gamespot users no your IQ level must be really low, and you have allot of ignorance, the usual fanboy traits.

Am busy downloading it now, 30 hrs of gameplay for 17 pound is a great deal, this expansion is almost three times the size of an average game, i beat gears in 8 hrs on hard(but this game has awesome multi-player for re-playabilty) and 40 pound for that games was well worth it, i beat god of war in 8 hrs and will probably never play it all the way through again, but for 30 pound i thought it was worth it, am busy playing god of war 2 am 6 hrs in with only about a quater of the game left, and those six great hours have been well worth the 30 pound. You can see where im going with this, i still have not fully finished oblivion but i must have played that game for well over 100 hrs, i have so many 360 games that i kind of forgot about oblivion but now that this expansion is out i will start playing it again, i also bought the night of nines expansion, so for just under 25 pound i get forty hours worth of gameplay, id say that was a bargain. and anyone saying this is oo expensive really has not got a clue. Do you expect developers to sell you this huge expansion pack for 5-10 bucks like it was an old arcade game, i bet this expansion cost quite a bit to develop. Doesnt matter what kind of news that comes on gamespot people moan, if its good news for 360 ps3 fans moan, if its good news for ps3 360 fans moan, and if its bad news for ps3, 360 fans brag, and if its bad news for 360 ps3 fans brag. You should really read your posts before you submit them as if you really thought about what you were saying, you should be embarrased by the size of your pea sized brain.

@ Koal_Jadain SHEEP? how dare you! I've logged well over 220 hours on Oblivion in the last year, The original game is well worth the money and the downloadable content is not only revolutionary for consoles but worth every penny also. Who cares about a box? You resemble an idiot.

ScreamDream, I pay $15 a month for World of Warcraft.... and it goes down more often than Xbox Live! Don't get me wrong, I DO own both a 360 (with live) and a PC (with WoW). I love both consoles, but I don't understand your point.

"ScreamDream Xbox Live down for 14 hours and it's a pay service?" Yes, it happens. Its called maintenance. Money doesn't make servers invincible to the world, they do need updates just as every other computer on the planet does. We pay to help with the updates so the service isn't susceptible to security holes and such. People amaze me with their ignorance.

hepcat00

ScreamDream- really?? 14 cents a day is too much for an awesome online experience like XBL?? and you complain when its down for ONE day for maintenance? are you aware that if you have ANY online cable/satellite service, they are allowed to shut down EVERY NIGHT if they want to for maintenance (generally between 1am-6am), and you pay $50 PER MONTH for Comcast (or some other ISP)--granted, they only do it once or twice a year, same as MS, but consider how much MORE you're paying for it. So STFU or go get your *free* crappy PS3 service. You want to complain?? Complain that you're paying $30 for an add-on to Oblivion which should really cost less....(or a ton more, considering how much they charged for lame horse armor--comparatively speaking).

NY_Yankees_Fan The PS3 version already came with this update!-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It came with "Knights of the Nine" and as far as the rest of the expansions go, rigt now as it stands the PS3 won't have anymore expansions. But don't go crying because I'm sure Bethesda is working on solving that problem. Ps3 will just be the last to get the expansion that's all.

The larger 360 hard drives are 120 gb for $200, which is a complete and total rip off. You can buy the same exact hard drive (5200 rpm Laptop drive) with 300 gb for $150.

kvan33
kvan33

360's only have about 14 gig of savable hard drive space. When an expansion pack takes almost 1 gig of that, it doesn't take someone with a degree in math to know that we'll all be filling up our hard drives sooner than later. I guess gone are the days of the old Xbox and not even thinking about how much drive space you had left. So now I'm wondering when Microsoft will be releasing the new larger hard drives for sale. My guess: 100 Gig at $150. What a rip. But I'll be shelling out the cash anyway.
