Sony launches a new free app for iOS and Android.

Sony has released a new free app dedicated entirely to sending messages to PlayStation members.

The existing PlayStation App already let you send messages, but, due to the popularity of messaging in the app, Sony has now followed in the footsteps of Facebook and released another app focused exclusively on chatting.

In a statement, Sony's John Koller said the Messages functionality within the existing PlayStation App is the most popular feature. "So we created the standalone PlayStation Messages app with a more streamlined design in order to get you into your Messages and communicating with your friends faster than ever before," he explained.

The app--get it here for iOS and Android devices--displays your entire friends list. You can sort it by online status or alphabetically. It also supports messages to multiple people, while you can send voice messages, attachments, and stickers, too. Click through the images in the gallery above to get a closer look.
