Now Lara Croft has a F2P card game

Lara Croft: Reflections released on the Australian and New Zealand app stores.

Lara Croft: Reflections has been unveiled, and it's a free-to-play collectible card game for iOS. Watch out Hearthstone!

The app has been released on the New Zealand and Australian app stores, which is fairly common practice--expect to see it filter to other territories in the near future. The game is free to download, with packs of virtual currency being sold as in-app purchases ranging between 100 gold for $0.99 to 2200 gold for $20.99.

Lara Croft: Reflections has players battle the AI and other players with weapon cards, and allows players to level up these cards to become more powerful. "Adventure through mysterious lost worlds, collect valuable artifacts, battle enemies and other game players, and combine new weapons to increase your power," says the game's official blurb.

One screenshot shows a versus battle between Lara Croft and Lara Croft. A constant network connection is required to play, and the game requires at least iOS 5 and an iPhone 4, iPhone Touch 5th gen, or iPad 2.

"The second opponent I fought was another Lara from a different dimension. Why would she kill herself? Wouldn't they team up and share info?? The answer is no apparently," reads the game's first customer review from anyoneanyone28.

I have a (sadly incomplete) collection of the old Tomb Raider CCG. It was a pretty rockin' game. Sort of a fusion of card game and board game elements. Sadly, not a lot of people in my area ever played it.

Might snatch my spouse's phone and try this out sometime.

Hearthstone has nothing to worry about, since it's a massive failure on Square Enix's part not to bring this to PC.

Maybe she could hold her chin up at some point and not look like she is nodding to her assets EVERY TIME!

Well I guess we can officially brand Square Enix a purely mobile gaming publisher/dev at this point.

R.I.P. Final Fantasy.

Why are they only using Lara's old models?

this idea would work better as a table top game, without the lara on lara stuff...well that sounds good make that too.

Yup, this is just what the series needed to be taken more seriously.

Nice how GS turned this piece to marketing Hearthstone! Nicely done! Now I'm sure going to give this one a shot, and why wouldn't I? I love Lara Croft and Tomb Raider.

Square just can't stop milking her she must be getting sore from all this milking first they release the same game twice one almost a year after the original and want you to pay full price for it. Now a Card game does Tomb raider really have enough characters for a card game?

Let's the milking begin.

No PC or Android version always sounds like a shameless cash in even before the transactions begin, i like how hearthstone has handled things, but thats from Blizzard, they usually do things right , eventually / soon™.

And to think, they had to have had a meeting were this was proposed and everyone voted that this was a good idea.

Scrolling past the pictures, my eyes picked up the "NO SKILL"' text; about right for a Pay 2 Win game like this.

I actually love their mobile FF re-makes.  I've finished I-V and am well into After Years.  I only wish they'd make 3D versions of V and VI.  One day...

Or not, no android version or PC. Fuck you then. You lost customer here, because of supporting only Apple crap.

@EasyComeEasyGoIt's the day before Christmas (in Sweden), I'm surprised there is any news here.

@cjimrun That's just it though isn't it. Maybe I'm getting old but I remember a time where a Final Fantasy game being announced for release was something to look forward to. A lot of the original FF Fans have played the originals of all their "remakes" and there were ports made to PC long before SquareEnix decided to do their remakes.

The fact of the matter is Square as a company now only look at the FF franchise as a cash cow. Pull what cash you can out, remake it in HD, remake it for PC, remake it with a few extra items, and then when you've done all that remake it again for the phones. If you look at SquareEnix's major releases in the last year they've all been for long dead IP's that Square's picked up and they're trying to breathe life back into (Croft, Hitman, etc.).

Final Fantasy is dying in their hands and there's no other way to justify it. We used to have new worlds and storylines and sound tracks to look forward to with each Final Fantasy. There's only so many times you can remake games. Whats the bet once they've hit FF 10 they go back to the start and start releasing FF 1 - 4 with slightly improved animations and resolutions as a fresh game.

I apologize for the rant but Final Fantasy used to be my all time favourite franchise for games, and it's just heart-breaking to see what's being done to it (no I don't agree that any game after FF-10 can be counted as a Final Fantasy game, it just didn't do any justice to the franchise whatsoever). Guess I'll just go throw my money at EA and their micro-transaction riddled BioWare games.

@megakick@darkrayne Oh wow, thanks for stating the obvious. Maybe I should go into a little more detail so the simple minded people can understand what I meant by my comment. Now that Blizzard have made a card game.. they are suddenly assumed to be popular by publishers. Therefore, a hell of a lot more card games are now in development.

@pupp3t_mast3r

How can you say they only release re-makes of Final Fantasy when Lightning Returns is coming-out soon and FFXV is in development?  On top of playing each re-make, I also platinumed FFXIII and XIII-2 and Lightning Returns will be the 3rd major release this gen which is on par with past systems.  I also think Dissidia Duodecim was an incredible gift to fans and one of the best games they've made in a long time.  When it comes to Final Fantasy, I'm a fan of both the old and the new. Square Enix remains my favorite developer and I look forward to their future releases more than any other titles.

@chibi-acer@darkrayne@megakick Yu Gi Oh, Pokemon, SNK vs Capcom card fighters, PSO III, Magic the Gathering, Eye of Judgement, Marvel Trading Card Game and more there are probably over a 100+ video game card games.

chibi-acer

@darkrayne @megakick I think the point is on mobile a lot of the top grossing games are card games.  I'm doubtful Squeenix is copying Blizzard as much as they are the other companies that put out games over the last couple years (the same ones that Blizzard is copying).
