No offline co-op for Splinter Cell: Blacklist Wii U

Ubisoft confirms Nintendo version of upcoming game does not include offline co-op so it could launch alongside other versions.

The Wii U version of upcoming action game Splinter Cell: Blacklist will not feature offline cooperative play, developer Ubisoft Shanghai has confirmed with Nintendo Life.

"In order to ship at the same time as the other consoles, we unfortunately weren't able to delve into this feature," producer Liu Jun said. "But we think Nintendo gamers will be really excited to get the game at the same time as other consoles."

Online co-op and multiplayer modes will be available in the Wii U version.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist on Wii will support off-TV play through the GamePad for all game modes except offline co-op. In addition, the GamePad can be used to view Sam Fisher's arm computer OPSAT (OPerational SATellite uplink).

"The Wii U is the only version of the game where you really get to experience first-hand how OPSAT works for Sam and how it feels to actually operate it," Jun said.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U on August 20. For more, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Ok, so the Wii U haters are claiming Wii U owners are paying full price for an unfinished product? It has all the Tablet features and better graphics...LOL I wonder how many people really care about "Offline-Co-op"? Splinter cell is a single player campaign driven game with gadgets - that you can control with a next gen tablet on your Wii U? So who is paying full price for less of a game running on old systems with half a gig of ram? Jealous uninormed Haters. Ridiculous.

"The Wii U is the only version of the game where you really get to experience first-hand how OPSAT works for Sam and how it feels to actually operate it," no idea how its going to be implimented but i'm already calling bull shit. also confused it says no offline multiplayer and then says every mode plays on the gamepad except offline multiplay? WTF dose this game have offline multiplay or not?????

You guy are going to pay full price for an unfinished product? Well not me. Buying Splinter cell is not going to save the WiiU.

its just a nice way of saying the system isn't powerful enough to handle local co-op

What's perplexing to me is that people act like they've never played a Nintendo console before. This isn't the first time features have been missing or a game totally inferior to other console ports. For example when Street Fighter came out for both SNES and Genesis, while The SNES version looked better, the Genesis version was the Turbo Championship edition. When Madden came out again on both Genesis and SNES, the Genesis version played 1000 times better and really mostly all multiplatform games are the same with a few exceptions.

Not funny at all. Although I don't own a Wii U, I plan to buy one and I had this title in my list exactly because I thought that, with the gamepad, it would be great to play offline matches.

At least they're retaining the online modes, would have been much worse if those got cut

It's amazing how much stuff the WiiU DOESN'T get....

People keep blaming Nintendo for third party developers releasing half-baked efforts onto the Wii U and I disagree with that entirely. This has been going on since the launch of the Wii U, EA did it with Fifa 13 which was essentially an updated Fifa 12 with no ultimate team etc.

I'm starting to believe that the tablet controller is responsible for this. They seem to think they can add a few features for the gamepad and then take away features from somewhere else and that to me is unacceptable. You can bet your life savings on developers not having such a lack of respect for Sony or Microsoft gamers if those consoles had a similar controller.

There's a reason these half-arsed efforts from developers aren't selling, it's because people aren't going to part with their hard-earned cash for a version of a game that is missing some essential features.

Gotta admit, if Nintendo didn't cheap out on the console, they had the chance to make a massive success and basically destroy the competition... Had the money from their massive success (Wii + 3ds) had the early release, but It's a real shame they took the "moar money" approach and threw away the whole thing... Honestly the tablet with a decent console would have been great fun (in my oppinion) but I guess I'll just have to hope Sony make use of the Vita instead.

Oh that sucks. If I had a Wii U, I'd probably still get it on the 360, but this makes it even worse 'cause I really like the idea of splitting the two screens up so one plays on the tablet and the other on the screen. Oh well, that's unfortunate.

Wow! This guy is really stretching it, lol. Just say the console sucks, we know we're gonna lose money on it and you're lucky we even made another Wii U game. I think people would rather hear at least a sliver of truth than this pr fluff.

i hope they make the online multiplayer good for the pc because the multiplayer on conviction was broken.

Yay.. another excuse for retards to bash the WiiU.  I think the people who hate the WiiU are the people who dont have one.  I am happy I got mine, and I own a 360, PS3, PC and everything in between as well.  It has some good exclusives and will continue to have games that no other system will have.  Ill pick up Splinter Cell for my WiiU over 360 or PS3, but I wasnt going to play coop anyhow.

Doesn't matter whether the Wii U gets a game or not, it's always a loss.

the Wii U isn't inferior, it's what third party developers keep doing to them.

You looking at software sales buddy? No! You're seeing the inflated sales because every old folks home bought them by the dozen for Wii Sports. See you in a few years when Nintendo pisses you off too!

Dude. I sell the shit! Nobody over the age of 6 gives a fuck about the WiiU! Sorry! I want the damn thing to be successful so I can make MONEY! It's just not! Sorry! Reality is not based on how much you love a company! Hardcore? Games that have BLOOD in them, I guess! Games you can't buy without mommy's id.

@veronus2

Ummm hate to burst your bubble but the Wii U has a better GPU but a terribly slow processor.   Yeah so it has 1 GB of Ram compared to Xbox360 540MB but the processor is so slow, who gives a crap how much Ram it has.  For a "next-gen" system, spec-wise the Wii U is pathetic.  How many years has the Xbox and PS3 been out?  Riiiight.

@Tyrone Robinson The Genesis version of Street Fighter 2 is just a slightly worse looking version of Street Fighter II The World Warrior I'm pretty sure.

19James89

@Justforvisit I'm not sure why they feel the need to keep cutting things out. As if any right minded individual is going to pay full price for a game with less features than other console versions? If I do buy Blacklist which is highly unlikely, I'll buy it pre-owned when it costs under £10.

@19James89 I agree its fucking lazyness regardless of the platform for them to cut something then blame this and that. Ive been calling Developers on their bullshit forever because they show their lack of talent when they essentially 'blame the tool' for a shit job when its in their hands to do it right.

@LastRambo341 @ccgod I'm gonna give the wii-u the benefit of the doubt and say this game prob has decent graphics which means the wii-u isn't strong enough to produce it twice ie split screen  but nice try to u

19James89
19James89

@IanNottinghamX This article should put off any Wii U owner because the developers have basically said that "we're rushing this game out", rushed games are more often than not average or poor games.

I remember when Miyamoto said that he'll never rush a game out because if you rush a bad game out, it stays bad forever, you cannot alter the fact that a bad game will be a bad game, but if you spend the time making a good game, then it will always be a good game.

His attitude is the reason why Nintendo games have been enjoyed for three decades and its this approach which makes playing games like Pikmin 3 so rewarding and fun because you can see the dedication and the effort that has gone into these games.

More developers should take a leaf out of his book.

AlexFili
AlexFili

@phantomshadow47 Because they're dumb of course. "Yeah, let's release an inferior version of a game on one console and see what happens. Oh wow, the ones with all the features sell well." I wonder why

ccgod
ccgod

@FPS1337 @ccgod @LastRambo341 well i would hope so since its "next gen"  and its more like the lack of caring because they know sales will suck either way but this way saves $$ and nintendo saves face

FPS1337
FPS1337

@ccgod @LastRambo341 Wii U is already proven to be more powerful than Xbox 360 and PS3 even in its launch. Need for Speed Most Wanted U uses the PC versions textures and assets, also it runs essentially all the best looking Xbox 360 and PS3 games in its launch. Its clearly more powerful, especially when developers get use to it. Its easily powerful enough to handle offline co-op, and even if it did have struggles handling, it would just be set to lower settings than other consoles. Its just the lack of development time on Wii-U.

corrus

@19James89@IanNottinghamXLOL they rushed games cos Nintendo are GREEDY SB that's why people give 1M on port from where they will get back their money when you not buying that ports

19James89
19James89

@AlexFili Companies like EA and Ubisoft found out what happens when you basically port half-baked efforts onto the Wii U. You'll be lucky to sell more than 200,000 copies.
