No More Heroes 3 'won't happen soon' - Report

Grasshopper chief Suda 51 expresses desire to makes sequel, but warns that it's not in the cards in the near future.

by

Later this year, Western gamers will be treated to No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise. Exclusive to the PlayStation 3 in North America and Europe, the game will support the console's Move motion-sensing system. It is also a high-definition port of the 2007 Wii title No More Heroes, which was the brainchild of Grasshopper Manufacture head Goichi Suda, also known as Suda 51 (Killer 7).

A third No More Heroes game could be in the cards…eventually.

Last night in Japan, Suda held a charity event to both raise money for victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami and promote his new Electronic Arts-published game, Shadows of the Damned. According to a Famitsu report (translated by Andria Sang), the famed designer also discussed the possibility of a new No More Heroes game, expressing interest in such a project.

"Although it won't happen soon, I'd like to do it at some point," he reportedly told the crowd.

If it comes to fruition, the next No More Heroes game would be the third in the series. The second game, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, was published for the Wii in North America in early 2010 by Ubisoft. No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise will be published by Konami, with AQ Interactive handling development.

As previously mentioned, Heroes Paradise will be an HD version of the original No More Heroes. The game presents a hyperstylized and violent world of fan boy fantasies in which protagonist Travis Touchdown ascends the ranks of an assassins' guild by murdering all of his competition. In addition to becoming the world's greatest hired killer, Travis hopes his efforts will win the affections of his beautiful and mysterious benefactor.

Besides PlayStation Move controls, AQ has added more boss characters to Heroes Paradise, as well as improved the artificial intelligence of No More Heroes' enemies. Players will also be able to face off against previously defeated bosses in the newly added Rebout mode. Lastly, Viewer mode lets gamers watch the game's cutscenes without playing through the game.

Aw man. Well Suda51, your games are awesome. Although I love your No More Heroes franchise on the Wii, I do enjoy the 360 and PS3 versions just as much. Please take all the time you need. We won't want a rushed product. Just make sure it doesn't take too long, we all know how games that took forever to make would turn out.

@NeonNinja Actually the first game was released in 2007 in Japan.

SUDA51 is one of the wackiest developers alive. Not one of his games takes itself seriously, and has a lot of humour to boot, making his games a must have. To SUDA51 himself, take your time. I'm sure we can allow Japan to recover before we can have another one of your awesome games. In the meantime, I'll be getting NMH: Heroes' Paradise. See you on the far side!

Take your time, Suda, all the time you need. I love me some No More Heroes, but I found the second one to be a little bit disappointing (at least compared to the lofty standards I had following the first). Take the time to flesh this one out. Unfortunately, if he stays true to what he's been saying for a while now, Travis won't be the protagonist. That makes me a sad panda.

odename d, shadows, sliver case +25th ward, sine mora,...mebe something cooking with mondo. getting tired of pumped out trilogies from devs...its like watching tv, you know how it will end if theres only x time left, and you know x cast member will never die, and you know.....etc. i can wait =)

It still would've been nice if the ps3 at least got the first NMH game too.

@Jurassic85 Personally, I don't care about the HD part of it. No More Heroes with Move will be better though, because Move does handle better than the Wiimote. Though, I would rather take PS3 exclusives over Wii.

Of course it isn't going to happen soon. Suda 51 is working on both Codename D for Microsoft and Shadows of the Damned with Shinji Mikami. Dude's busy right now. But No More Heroes is spectacular stuff! Also, what's with the misinformation? No More Heroes is a 2008 release, not a 2007 one. Silly typos. :P

I don't blame Suda 51, I blame the stupid gamers who did not appreciate the beauty of this games - NMH 1 and 2 - all they buy is CoD of FIFA.

@RadicalToenail It is hilarious to me that PS3 owners make such a big deal out of playing old games simply because they are in HD. @falconclan That's funny. Nintendo has some of the best exclusives out there. If you don't mind missing out on amazing games like Mario Galaxy, Zelda, etc.

@king_gamer19 I would bet we do, honestly. Suda loves No More Heroes even though no one else does. Sort of like the ugly child, so he'll just keep trying. I personally love the games, beat both, probably 10 times, but in Japan the games don't sell at all.

@wiigamer98 Actually, a lot of them are ports, just gamecube era, which I'll put my head out there and say thats far worse then an upgraded port with NMH2 boss battles and tons more extras. Perhaps its just me. Enjoy your Mario and shovelware! /feeding the troll

@Jurassic85 What, Wii gamers have had No More Heroes in HD? Why didn't anyone tell me?! I've been missing out on a high-def game for Wii! I should pay more attention...

Seriously, though, your comment makes no sense.

People who own the PS3 exclusively are just now getting No More Heroes and Splinter Cell HD? Enjoy the games that the rest of us have been playing for years, guys!

Travis Touchdown RULES! I love both NMH games and I'm really looking forward to a sequel. I don't care about waiting, you just can't rush a gmae like this.

I'll easily buy a third game. Got both Wii games and have the PS3 version pre-ordered.

@Phil-teh-Pirate Actually, even with updates and added on content, it can still be a port. Example: I have Gauntlet Legends on N64 and Dark Legacy on PS2. The PS2 game has more content (such as playable characters and levels) than the N64 release and is a bit easier to control, but it's still a port for using the same engine, having the same levels from the past version, and same mechanics.

I honestly believe that the two no more heroes games are quite possibly the best non first party games on the Wii. I'm a Nintendo fanboy and seldom buy third party titles. But I absolutely loved both these games. Mind you I did love Killer 7 on the Gamecube as well. I would be pretty critical of games, there are a lot of subpar games getting recognition at the moment. If you have a wii I'd recommend getting their version over the PS3 version (because you can pick them up for less) but I would say a remake for the Playstation move would have the potential to expand the audience and give it the success it deserves. Given the fact that the PS3 is aimed at a more "mature" audience. Ps. Nintendo rock (just wanted to say that because I love them)

I have one problem with this article. If a developer vastly add's and improves on the originals core gameplay and concepts, it is not merely a port. It's an upgrade, surely this should be regarded as an improved version of the old game? Not to belittle the Wii's version, but "porting" is becoming an ugly buzz word that screams low quality (in my opinion anyway).

I was disappointed by the second one. I think it may have lost its shock value from the first. I kept playing the first one to see what the heck was going to happen next, but with the second I found myself rushing to finish so I could be done with it. Or maybe it is just that I was borrowing the second one and had to finish it in a week and couldn't walk away when I needed to like the first one. I took 4 months to beat the first, one week to beat the second. I suppose it may have been my own pacing that was the problem. Or maybe not, who knows.

Didn't he say months ago, that the next one wouldn't come out until the next Nintendo console released. Well whenever it comes out, I'm looking forward to it; I'm a big fan of the first two games.

Love 1 and 2 and would love to play a third. I have a PS3 and am all for supporting Suda, but I don't see the point in spending money on a port just because it's in HD now.

I'm pretty excited to hear that they're going to take the time. I'd rather wait a few years and have a great product than wait 8 months and get an "acceptable" product. I hope they can release the game that they want.

@dohji I've seen several interviews with Suda stating that it wasn't his call to move No More Heroes to 360 or PS3, but it was the publishers call. He sees the series as a Wii specific, and he has went even further stating that the next iteration would be on the next Nintendo home console. I'm not sure where you're getting your info, but I was taking mine from direct interviews with the man himself. Once again it was not his decision, but the publishers.

@Smithers2286 Maybe wii fanboys like u aint happy but Suda is the one that wanted to expand the title to other systems besides the wii. He said he's done all he can with no more heroes on the wii since it's suc a limited system, which is why he's expanding the franchise to PS3. I ain't knockin the wii version cause it will always be the best version, but dont say Suda didn't want it to branch out.
