Nissan designs Xbox-integrated auto

Concept two-seater will allow passengers to play racing games while really on the road.

It looks like Peugeot designers aren't the only car engineers who love games. Next month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Nissan will show off a concept car that integrates an Xbox into its dashboard. Not only will the car cater to gamers, but it also will be set up to let passengers play games like Need For Speed Most Wanted as though they were really behind the wheel. According to Wired, the Nissan Urge "has two seats that are modeled to [look] like a cockpit, so the passenger will get to pretend he's driving [via an Xbox] while the driver hopefully isn't too distracted to do the real thing." The car will go on display January 9, 2006.

Interesting. I'm sure we won't see 360s in production cars anytime soon but I wonder what parts of that concept filters it's way into Nissan future lineup? Years ago no one would have thought that so many vehicles (especially minivans and sports utilities) would ever come equipped with built in TVs and DVD players.

It's a concept car. Most likely it will never be produced. If it is, it will be w/o the x-box. The idea behind a concept car is to get creatvie ideas flowing and exchanged between automakers to make better vehicles for the consumer. The x-box is nothing more than a gimmick here.

The new GTR is going to come out in 2007 the concept car that is most likely to look the same as the production model is in this months motortrend. I am pretty sure they will have the different consoles as options just like the satellite radio you could either get sirus or xm.

dash board PC is more and more common now. I'd like those car manufacturers to make those standard and really solve the power and heat issue. also a dashboard pc with touch screen and GPS should be cheaper than $800, instead of the thousands of dollars they are trying to charge customers now.

I live in the Motor City. I'll see it and re-report with pics. Nissan needs to stop having 60yr olds come up with sales ideas. SKYLINE!!!!!!
