Next month, at the Tokyo International Film Festival, legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto will be in attendance for the debut of an animated Pikmin film that he produced.

The film, Pikmin Short Movies, is comprised of three shorts starring Capital Olimar and the eponymous Pikmin, Variety reports. These include The Night Juicer ("Captain Olimar makes his favorite juice"), Treasure in a Bottle ("Pikmin meet a strange treasure"), and Occupational Hazards ("an adventure at a construction site").

Miyamoto produced the film for what Variety describes as a Nintendo "research project." At the festival, he'll participate in a presentation with Nobuo Kawakami, the chairman of Japanese media company Dwango and a producer at animation studio Studio Ghibli (which you may know from its work on RPG Ni no Kuni).

Unfortunately, you'll need to be in Japan during October to catch the film compilation, as the Tokyo International Film Festival will be taking place in various locations around the city from October 25-31. We've contacted Nintendo to find out if there is any chance of the films being released to the public.

The most recent game in the Pikmin series, Pikmin 3, was released last year on Wii U. Olimar, the protagonist of the series, will be playable in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U.
