Nintendo to anchor E for All

The Mario factory will be the flagship exhibitor for the trade show due to take place this year between October 18 and 21.

by

In January this year, International Data Group, the trade-show company which also owns Macworld, renamed the GamePro Expo the Entertainment for All Expo, or E for All. New details about the event, which will take place in the fourth quarter of this year, have now been confirmed, with Nintendo as the "anchor exhibitor" and other, as yet unnamed, gaming companies also apparently signing on.

Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing, George Harrison, said the two shared a similar strategy in that "the E for All Expo supports Nintendo's mission to reach as many types of consumers as possible to expand the world of video games to new audiences."

Don James, Nintendo's US executive vice president of operations, will also be serving on the event's Exhibitor Advisory Board.

The event will let visitors test-drive the latest games and gadgets and buy goods at on-site retail facilities, and it will also feature "high-profile" game tournaments, a job fair, networking opportunities, and a Video Games Live concert.

E for All will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center, along with the currently expanding LA Live/Nokia Theatre area directly adjacent, between October 18 and 21.

Wow. . .A while back I mentioned for Nintendo's strategy to reach maximum effectiveness, it needed to begin better utilizing every single trade show from here on out. . . Maybe I should look into becoming a professional analyst. . .(though then gamers would ignore my opinions entirely immediately after spying the word "analyst").

Inconceivable! If you're seen The Princess Bride you'll understand that reference :P

Good. Nintendo is the only company reaching out to MORE gamers. It only makes sense that they should headline an event such as Entertainment for All.

"Surely this event taking place in October will give developers much more time then E3 did." -?- Well maybe for this year but after that, it's going to be a 1 year deadline.

This seems to be a welcome departure from the "old" E3. Hopefully the fact that it takes place in the fall rather than May won't hurt consumers' expectations (they're the ones who glue themselves to monitors hitting F5 repeatedly during the press conferences). The fact that Nintendo is taking a larger than expected interest is exciting to say the least.

Surely this event taking place in October will give developers much more time then E3 did. They should be able to accomplish more things without all the pressure. Looking forward to it.

I hope they bring some nice stuff...I'm still kind of worried of it not being E3 and all.

I think this is kind of pointless for Nintendo as they've been doing the same thing in malls for years. Unless they plan on giving people a first-hand try of Mario Galaxy, Metroid or Super Smash Bros. than it might not be worth it

IDG is a known strong media-property company with a good degree of editorial independence (don't believe me? Read any of the articles excoriating Vista in PCWorld and tell me if a company that was in the industry's back pocket would intentionally offend the 800-pound gorilla). I have a good degree of faith in E for All becoming the second-best show in gaming (behind PAX, which is REALLY the new E3 in terms of impact.)

E4 could definitely work.

Since this is basically the new E3, I would love to see the way the name is spelled to change to "E4 All," Come on, anybody agree... No? ... Okay, just putting it out there :-)

Wii for All! Wasn't $ony one of the reasons that E3 is no more? A few company's whined about E3 getting too bigand costly so the ESA downsized and moved (I personally think it was cause everybody in the LACC was in the "N" booth for all three days, of course taking a two hour break to watch the infamous $ony conference). Now, Nintendo is staying in the convention center and taking over the spotlight (officially).... Hmmmm, sounds like the plan backfired to me.

I see that's kind of interesting. But that defiantly seems to fit what Nintendo is attempting to right now, get new customers that wouldn't normally play video games.

"I'm not sure how well this will go now the novelty of the Wii has worn off but it will be interesting nontheless." The Wii isn't the only thing Nintendo has going for them, the novelty of the DS still hasn't worn off...

I want to go! :) ..... but does this E for All mean that they're only going to have E-rated games? I doubt it, but it would suck if it were true.

Awesome, Nintendo can deliver their message to all and get some lime light.

What are you talking about? They have it later in the year because game developers didnt have enough of the games completed early in the year and had to scramble to make something look good before they showed it... now they can work on the game through the year and show the actual game as it looks near the end of the year, unlike half life 2 which made a scripted sequence for e3 and then it wasn tin the game...

I hate that we have to wait for another college/school to begin to even get access to vids, and previews here! Ohh..This is So Not Cool! Maybe this is done to more easily generate hype, and more of it. The only good thing is that the demos will be closer to what the final games will be like than how normally. This is bad, too, considering the developers won't have much time to take out all the elements of their games, that weren't well received, before the Christmas shopping season, thus us{the players} ending up owning a game that could possibly have serious flaws, that in addition to glitches, could seriously hamper the game in terms of game play, and other such relevent catagories.

Anyway, sounds good to me. I figure Microsoft and Sony will dominate E3, so Nintendo needs a way to get their message out too. i dont know what E3 your talking about, because the last one was all ninty.

i just love the wii haters and i love more that the wii sold about 6 million units in about half of this year and it took ms allmost 2 years to get 10 million and the last i checked sony was just hiting 3. so keeping hateing cause that just makes us love our wiis more lol and just wait till the real games come out not those ps2 ports with wii controls games like heros, ssb, mario g,metroid 3,resident evil, sadness, manhunt 2,etc thats when the wii is realy going to sell so just keep hateing i wont cause i still play my 360 every once in a while but i wont spend 600$ on a ps3 but ill get one when there 3 or 400$

nuttybar While "E for all" its technically not E3, the actual E3 will no longer be what people has come to expect from it. "E for all" has come to fill that void so it is the nwe E3 it just no affiliated with the older one. I f you want you can read some more here: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6160840.html?q=gamepro%20expo
