Nintendo teams with Penny Arcade for Zelda comic

Webcomic duo crafting five panels based on Link's latest outing in Skyward Sword; first now available.

Popular webcomic Penny Arcade has collaborated with a number of gaming companies in the past, including Ubisoft and Capcom. Now, one more big-time publisher can be added to that list, as Nintendo announced today that it has commissioned Jerry "Tycho" Holkins and Mike "Gabe" Krahulik to create five original comic panels based on the Legend of Zelda franchise.

The Penny Arcade style is in full effect on this flying Link.

Timed for release alongside Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii, the first of Penny Arcade's panels arrived today and can be seen on the game's official site. The remaining four panels will be released on a weekly basis.

Designed around Nintendo's Wii Remote Plus (or Wii Remote with MotionPlus accessory), Skyward Sword features a new combat system that approximates one-to-one controller-to-sword motion. Beyond giving Link new ways to cut up the usual assortment of carnivorous plants, disembodied eyeballs, and orcish monsters, the game features new gadgets and abilities for the lithe protagonist to employ.

Skyward Sword is set to hit shelves on November 20. For more on Link's latest adventure, check out GameSpot's recent coverage.

Why are you morons assuming it's going to be a humorous comic? They do comics for all sorts of games, and they're always serious. It's just done in the PA art style, nothing else.

For me, game-based comics could never pull off the magic that the games did, this includes those Sonic, Zelda, and Halo comic books, strips, mangas, etc.

I love the anti-penny arcade backlash. I guess they are officially popular :)

anyone know where I can get a hi-res version of the first panel? Just printing on a standard piece of paper looks extremely pixelated.

a 5 panel comic that comes out over 5 weeks... Give me a break. I'll look at it in 5 weeks after they actually put it up in completed form - of course by then the Zelda hype will be dead and I'll forget it even existed.

really don't see the appeal with PA, just like all the other dumb bro gamer comics

Forget Link, Impa (or whoever she was) was so awesome. Also, I'm glad to see that Skyward Sword is continuing the tradition of ridiculous tiny mustaches that Twilight Princess started. Also, was anyone else reminded of the MM swordmaster when they saw that person with the tall, funny hat sitting there?

Have you all actually seen the AC:R poster they made? It's not humorous at all.

@otanikun So they lost respect from you because they had Penny Arcade do a humorous take on Zelda? Really? So I guess according to your logic, that no parody of Zelda can be made(And yes I am a true Zelda fan, I have been since the 80s)? Failed Logic.
