Now that Nintendo has nailed down a February 26 release for the 3DS in Japan, potential owners of the handheld can start planning out which games they'll want to pick up at launch. The console maker offered a little help on that front today, as it tacked a "spring 2011" Japanese release window onto 10 different first- and third-party titles.

Mercenaries 3D is the second Resident Evil game announced for the 3DS.
Mercenaries 3D is the second Resident Evil game announced for the 3DS.

Just as the original DS launched with Super Mario 64 DS, the 3DS will get its own Nintendo 64 classic rerelease with Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Nintendo also has Nintendogs + Cats, Pilotwings Resort, and Steel Diver in the pipe for the first few months of the 3DS's Japanese release. The third-party spring 2011 lineup is spearheaded by Capcom's Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition, Namco Bandai's Ridge Racer 3D, and Level-5's Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle. (The Professor Layton series is published by Nintendo internationally.)

Only two other titles were confirmed for 2011: Nintendo's original 3DS showpiece Kid Icarus and Konami's Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D - The Naked Sample. The rest of the games featured in Nintendo's 3DS press briefing have not been given launch windows. That assortment includes the 3D remake of Star Fox 64; new 3DS installments of Paper Mario, Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing; and Capcom's newly announced pair, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D and Mega Man Legends 3 Project.

Inspired by the Resident Evil game modes of the same name, The Mercenaries 3D will have players trying to beat each other's zombie kill counts in timed rounds. Specific missions from Resident Evil 4 and 5 will be included, along with new modes and additional characters. The game will also feature global online cooperative play.

First teased during Keiji Inafune's Comic-Con 2010 appearance, Mega Man Legends 3 Project was officially announced by the developer in a short video clip. Inafune gave no details on the project but assured fans that nobody has been looking forward to the game more than he has, calling it his dream. However, he also stressed that he wants to take the time to make it "good, really good" and wants to be more deeply involved in it than his usual games.
