Ahead of Thursday's livestream presentation, Nintendo has announced the upcoming availability of Switch preorders.

In a tweet this afternoon, the account for Nintendo's New York City retail store said, "A limited quantity of preorders for the Nintendo Switch will begin on 1/13 at 9 AM while supplies last" at Nintendo NYC. The store is located at 10 Rockefeller Plaza.

There's no indication of how limited quantities will be. New game consoles, particularly those from Nintendo, routinely sell out, and availability for Switch is expected to be limited. The phrase "limited quantities," while no surprise, doesn't inspire confidence given the difficulty in obtaining an NES Classic Edition. That $60 system continues to sell out whenever it's restocked, even two months after its launch.

Nintendo plans to announce many of the key details about Switch--including its price, specs, and game lineup--during a livestream on Thursday night. The NYC store will also host an in-store viewing event for the first 250 people to show up at 8 PM.

Preorders at the New York store open just a half an hour prior to a Treehouse livestream on Friday morning that will highlight the games from Thursday's event.

Switch is scheduled for release sometime this March. Recent reports have suggested it may cost in the neighborhood of $250. There's not yet any word on when other major retailers will begin taking preorders.
