Nintendo Store Update: Mega Man 5 jumps onto the Virtual Console

First Thursday update from House of Mario brings action platformer to Wii's nostalgic hub; 3DS eShop adds Game Boy version of Donkey Kong; WiiWare welcomes Snail Mail; DSiWare adds four.

Gamers looking to start their week off with a new title from Nintendo had that hope dashed earlier this week when the Mario factory pushed its weekly update from Monday to Thursday. Today, gamers can get their hands on a slew of new wares in Nintendo's first update at the new time.

Leading the pack this week is Mega Man 5 for the Wii Virtual Console. Originally released on the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Blue Bomber's return has players trekking through 13 stages, defeating eight evil robot masters along the way.

The Blue Bomber comes to life today on the Virtual Console.

Out now in the eShop is Donkey Kong for the 3DS ($4). The Game Boy reimagining of the classic arcade game, Donkey Kong for the 3DS has players pushing their way up a series of platforms while dodging obstacles. The game boasts 10 stages and 100 levels that players can complete as portly plumber Mario to save his damsel from the clutches of her evil keeper.

Switching to WiiWare, Nintendo added one new game to the download spot today. The new game is Sandlot Games' Snail Mail (600 Wii points, or $6), which has players guiding Turbo the Snail, as he attempts to deliver intergalactic mail. Snail Mail boasts 50 levels, as well as four modes: Postal, Multiplayer, Challenge, and Time Trials.

WiiWare also welcomed a new demo, with a trial version launching for Gaijin Games' rhythm game Bit.Trip Flux, the final entry in CommanderVideo's adventure.

Gamers looking to pick up a new DSiWare game today have four fresh titles to choose from. The American Gold Rush-themed Gold Fever (500 DSi points, or $5), Subdued Games' Hidden Photo (500 DSi points, or $5), Zimo: Mahjong Fanatic (200 DSi points, or $2), and Beach Party Craze (800 DSi points, or $8) are all now available to pick up.

DK is simply awesome! I can't believe the quality of this game from such early stages of the portable gaming. I thought of buying it only for nostalgia of the arcade levels, but after that a whole new adventure starts and is really addictive

Sweet. Gravity Man was awesome. Mega Man V was one of my favorite NES Megamans.

@g1rldraco7 Eh, you are right. They should start reviewing it, but I think the main reason is because they're games that have already been released. Unless you are talking about Wiiwares and DSiwares.

I wonder why they don't review virtual console games? Must be a good reason.

Why the heck doesn't gamespot review Wii VC games anyway!!! I trust them more than IGN, yet IGN actually seems to care about the oldies!

Sweet, Mega Man 5, one of the best games in the series, and Donkey Kong '94, the only true follow up to the original. This is a great update. Gravity Man's Stage for the win!

lol. Bowser in a game called Donkey Kong.

Mega Man 5 is one of the weaker ones in the series, but it's still a pretty solid addition. By the way, these writers need to start double checking there work (as evidence to the comments below).

@Jurassic85 So I've heard, I've been looking for one for years.

@mariostar0001 LOL seriously sometimes I wonder if the people who write these GS articles even play games, let alone proofread. The Eddie Makuch wrote wrote this is an epic fail. How can he write that the game is called Donkey Kong, and then claim that Bowser is the villain? LMAO. Also I have an original DK cartridge, one of the most under appreciated games of its time.

"players can complete as portly plumber Mario to save Peach from the clutches of her evil keeper Bowser." *facepalm* The game's called Donkey Kong, and Donkey Kong is the baddie (and Pauline the damsel, not Peach). Besides that, DK is a title I've been trying to find for the GB for a long time, putting it in the eShop (which I cannot access due to not owning a 3DS) is nearly an insult. :P
