Nintendo preparing Wind Waker HD Wii U bundle - Report

Nintendo readying Wind Waker HD Wii U hardware pack; new Pokemon 3DS XL consoles on the way.

by

Nintendo may be preparing to release a new Wii U hardware bundle, according to retail sources, as reported by Destructoid.

A tipster inside US retail chain Target provided the heads-up, following the appearance of a $349.99 package that will reportedly feature both a 32GB Deluxe edition of the struggling console and a copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.

The source also claimed that Nintendo is readying new 3DS XL packs in preparation for upcoming role-playing games Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. Available in either red or blue, no specifics were given on which coloured device would include which game, but the system has reportedly been priced at $199.99. No release date information was given.

Nintendo declined to comment on the alleged leak, saying that the company does not comment on rumour or speculation. Both games are currently slated for an October release.

Is this how Nintendo is planning to save the Wii U?  Really?

So for 300 bucks you get a plain old black wiiu that has a little stenciling on the tablet? And a digital copy of a game that is just a re-make? Yeah, no thanks.

I looked at the product description on gamestops website and it plainly says the game is digital. In fact all of the bonus content is all digital. Cheap bastards wont ever give new system buyers a physical copy of the game? What a rip off.

Im so sad for brainwashed people that will go and spend around 300-350 or even more for a 2002 remake when most of PC users nowdays can play the original game on 1080p ( or whoever havent already ) and of course in a legal and way cheaper way ( own the original game ) .

Do i need to spend 300-400$. No i wont. This is really sad for sheeps.

If you don't like the idea of a remake, shut up and don't buy it. Simple as that. They're releasing this one so that fanboys like you aren't crying while waiting for the new LoZ game that they released the tech demo of.

This might make me get a Wii U...then again maybe not until there is an actual HD non-cartoon Zelda game

Yes I have, the gamepad and the hardware are what makes the system a crappy console. Gamers don't need a freaking tablet controller.

rehash, repeat, rebuild, redo, sounds like the Call of Duty franchise!!! :D

Juan, Dolphin is far superior to the actual Wii system (Which I own as well). Your ignorance of calling me noob is hilarious. I'm not a noob, I was playing video games before your daddy even saw your mommy's love tunnel.

Get rid of the tablet, make a regular controller and make the console cost $150 and we have a deal

The video is HD sure, but the game texture's itself aren't really.

While a lot of people have been waiting for a Zelda game to get a WiiU, I don't see a bundle working well at regular pricing.  Prices on WiiU Basic models and some games have dropped massively as retailers want to get this stuff out of the store.

Recently in Canada, Target had the Basic for $150 for about a week or so.  Also, Walmart is selling Blops2, AC3, Nintendo Land, and Arkham City for $10.  I went there around when the price hit, and then 2 weeks later, and they still had lots of copies.  The Basic is now easily found in Canada for $199.

Anyone who is even a slightly "smart" consumer will do the math on this and see the bundle will probably be a terrible value.  I don't know if they are still offering the 10% credit back for the first year of digital purchases (VC only maybe, not sure).  But other than that, if you can find a Basic for $150-$200, Zelda WW for $60, and decently fast 64GB flash drives for $30, what's the point in getting the bundle?

Sure there are always clueless buyers, like your typical parents that buy a lot of Nintendo products.  However I would imagine many of the people who are waiting patiently for a Zelda WiiU game are going to be adults buying it for themselves, and probably knowledgeable enough to analyze the prices and storage options such.  A good number of them might not be swayed by a remake either, only the biggest fans, the rest will wait for an actual sequel.

Get the team in charge of 3ds to come in and fix this mess. Nintendo only seems to do handhelds correctly anymore

Oh Nintendo. Knowing this game would b a high selling point and not being fraking able to schedule it's development for it to be released at the same time as the console's launch. Who the frack is leading Nintendo's console market because they sure as hell don't know how to take the right decisions.

WiiU bundle with WindWaker HD would have moved at least 3 times more WiiU than including NintendoLand.

the 1st great game on the WiiU happens to be a HD remake. At least this is the kind of game that would move the system. Not quite there yet Nintendo, but almost; this is a step in the right direction.

This is a dumb idea honestly.  They should've went with a Mario Kart 8 Bundle, not a HD version of a gamecube game to bundle.

Last good system from Nintendo was the 64. Sad but true

Hmmm....I could buy a console that has no third party support, a flawed tablet controller mechanic, completely insufficient hard drive space for digital games, and comes with a ten year old game I already played, OR I could spend $50 more and get a PS4, an actual next gen console that is also a blu-ray player and so on.

Does Nintendo think we're idiots?  Don't answer that.

You know what would entice people to buy our struggling console?  Bundling it with a 10 year old game they already own!

Wind Waker: the game that has kept Nintendo alive by being resold in 100 different ways

BestJinjo

$349 for a console with 32GB of storage, outdated hardware and lack of almost any enticing games is way too much. Since you'd have to buy an external hard drive, put up with missing out on 100s of awesome 3rd party games in the next 6-7 years because the key developers have abandoned Wii U, and end up with a console that can't stand a candle to PS4/XB1 graphically, this needs to be $199 MAX. It's not a next gen console and right now it's becoming obvious this console's defining games will only be Nintendo's own. I abandoned N after N64. Starting with GameCube, Nintendo abandoned its roots. They should have just released a console exactly like XB1 minus Kinect for $399 and I would have bought it on day 1. Instead, we got an underpowered console with no storage and weird controls.

Wind Waker is certainly more appealing than Nintendoland or ZombiU. At least the franchise is recognizable. Including it in a bundle couldn't hurt.

@nini200 that would be great except Mario Kart isn't coming til next year.

@BestJinjo 12gb flash memory PS3 coming soon with wayyyyyyy more games than the WiiU. Nintendo really screwed things up with their 2014 and 2015 release dates for their good games.

Vegamyster

@BestJinjo The news super slim PS3 with 12gb of flash is $200

the Wii-U definitely has more horsepower then the PS3/360 whether you want to agree with that or not, it also has backwards compatibility with games & controllers, The touch screen + a game.

$200 for all that? Not going to happen.
