Nintendo lines up Euro release schedule

Manhunt 2 finally gets a confirmed release in the UK this August; Wii Wario Land and de Blob dated for September.

Although Grand Theft Auto IV swerved to the top of the charts, and sold some 8.5 million games so far, there's one other major Rockstar title that gamers in the UK are still waiting for.

That game is Manhunt 2, and it was originally meant to be released last summer. However, the British Board of Film Classification refused to issue the game a certificate on the Wii, PlayStation 2, or PSP, citing as one of its reasons the "unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone."

This was the start of a protracted legal battle between Rockstar and the ratings board, and involved a successful appeal, the overturning of that appeal, and the second verdict of the Video Appeals Committee, when the BBFC finally agreed to give an edited version of the game an 18 certificate.

Since the courtroom win, Rockstar has been strangely silent on a new date for the title, but according to Nintendo it will now be getting a release this August--on the Wii at least. Rockstar had not returned calls to comment on whether the other versions of the game would be coming out at the same time.

Nintendo also dated a slew of other titles, both first- and third-party, for the Wii and DS. The list covers Europe for the rest of the year, and includes de Blob on both the Wii and DS on September 26, Rock Band on the Wii in Q3, and Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations on October 3.

Asides from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, due out in the region on Friday, Wario Land: The Shake Dimension is the only major first-party release currently planned in Europe in 2008, according to the list. This incarnation is the first new Wario Land title since 2001, and also the first to appear off Nintendo's Game Boy or its siblings.

Only Wii games even worth briging up in conversation: Super Smash Bros. Brawl -Great game. Shame it's coming to EU so late. Guitar Hero Aerosmith -It has online play for Wii (which will be worser then it's HD counterparts), but it will essentially be a slightly better looking PS2 version that will probably require you to put the Wiimote in the guitar. Advantage: 360/PS3. Okami -Extremely overrated by the fans, but a good game none the less. Wii motion controls are wonky. Advantage: PS2. We Love Golf! -Pass. Mark my words, it will be mediocre. Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood/Road to Hill 30 -Won't look as good as the Original Xbox or PC versions, won't support HD like the Original Xbox or PC versions, and if there is even any online play at all, it'll pale in comparison to what the Original Xbox, PC, and even PS2 had online. And did anybody forget that Hell's Highway is coming out? Advantage: XB/PC/PS2 Soulcalibur Legends -A 52 metascore. Nuff said. Manhunt 2 -A pretty average-mediocre game, but from everything I hear the best version was on the Wii. Taking a quick look it looked better then the PS2 version, and the motion controls actually added something. Advantage: Wii. Sim City Creator -*Pretends to be excited* Star Wars: The Force Unleashed -Motion controls aren't 1 to 1 motion. Lost all interest there. Doubt the duel mode is gonna make up for anything. Advantage: 360/PS3 Wario Land: The Shake Dimension -Actually sounds like it might be a good game if it's not just some casual garbage. I'll be optimistic and wait and see. Samba De Amigo -I would say advantage Dreamcast, and just be a real ass, but it seems like they're actually upgrading an 8 years old game just enough to make it better (where's my actual maracas though?). Advantage: Wii Rock Band -No online play, no DLC, no character creator, dumbed down Band World Tour, PS2 graphics. And by the way, the PS2 version is the better way to go since it only cost $100 now. Advantage: 360/PS3/PS2 Skate It -Reminds me of those old arcade games. Might actually be fun. I'll keep an eye out for this one. Sonic Unleashed -They could of made a Secret Rings sequel, but instead they're doing a motion control tack on port of the PS2 version that will actually make the game worse. Advantage: 360/PS3/PS2 DS list coming soon....

Wow. I am not impressed with that list. There are a few ok games, but ninty needs to step it up before sales slow.

Obviously got to be some things missing off this list. Just off the top of my head there's no Lego: Batman on the list which is (subject to delays) slated to release in this window so who knows what else is missing. But seriously, where's the UK release date for Trauma Center: New Blood? It's been out over 6 months in the US and nearly that long in Japan, but no Euro date announced? Poor.

Does anyone even care about Manhunt 2 anymore? Looks like a lacklustre slate of games coming, hopefully they reveal some better ones at e3.

I just hope the next wario platformer isn't anywhere near as awful as the gamecube one was. Can't believe I'll finally get to play brawl in 3 days time. It's been an hugely unfair amount of time to wait, but it's gunna be worth it in the end.

Gaara79

Wait. Why did Appolo Justice come out in Europe before Trails and tribulations? I'm glad it's still coming out here. But still it's weird.

No Brawl yet I got that the day it come out in North America I was one of the first in Fredericton, NB but they get Sonic Unleashed around the same time and same with De Blob and does anybody even see Star Wars The Force Unleashed in that line of list I pretty much only focused on the Wii Titles

WOOOOOW. This is really sad. Europe did'nt even get Brawl yet? That really sucks, I remember how the wait felt for me...March 9th seemed to take forever, but this! This is just downright unfair.

Feel bad the Euro folks will have to wait for Nintendo's new Wario Land game. Guess the North American region will see the title in Aug.

Poor Europe, they still have to wait a while for games that have already been out in America for a month. I dont understand that the one game that they get before us is GH; Aerosmith. Isn't Aerosmith an American band?

Weird... So, the UK gets GH: Aerosmith 2 days BEFORE America? That's something new... Oh well, 2 days isn't that much.

On that whole wii list there is only 3 games I am interested in, 2 of which I will get for my PS3, and 1 which is a port of a PS2 game I already own. Not feeling to great about my wii here, it's just gathering dust.... :( The DS on the other hand....about time Rune Factory got a UK release! XD
