Nintendo Forms Monster League

Pocket Monster's popularity spawns league play.

Having contributed to the rise in Game Boy sales, Pocket Monster's popularity in Japan continues to gain momentum. Currently Nintendo has no plans to release the game in the US, even though the company dedicated several pages to it in a recent issue of Nintendo Power.

Meanwhile in Japan, Nintendo has created an Official Pocket Monster League to let the best players compete. Throughout the next few months, up until November, fans of the game will have a chance to pit their monsters against each other.

The last ten days of the competition will be the final rounds, where the best of the best will duke it out for the title of top breeder. Slightly less organized rallies have been going on among fans for a while now in Japan, but this is the first time that an official, nationwide competition has been held.

Now if only Nintendo would release Pocket Monster here. Can you say "World Championships?"
