Nintendo dates SSBB, WiiWare for Europe

Nintendo issues its slate of Q2 releases; Super Smash Bros. Brawl coming to Europe on June 27, WiiWare to arrive May 20.

by

After Super Smash Bros. Brawl made its stateside debut last month, European Nintendo fans were left wondering when they, too, would be able to battle it out with the publisher's mascot. Well, wonder no more...the popular fighting franchise, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, will be tackling Wii consoles across the continent from June 27.

Nintendo's WiiWare channel will also be making a European debut on May 20, which is 12 days after its US release. WiiWare will offer downloads of original first- and third-party games to Wii consoles. In the same manner as Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network, it is intended to allow smaller, independent developers access to the console's growing installed base. WiiWare launched in Japan on March 25. Launching just 10 days after WiiWare is the Nintendo Channel, which will allow owners to download DS games to their Wii, and will work in conjunction with WiiWare.

The Nintendo Channel will be available as a free download from the Wii Shopping Channel on May 30. The Japanese version offers streamed video content, including interviews with Nintendo's developers, one of which featured Shigeru Miyamoto with the newly launched Wii Fit. It is unclear whether the European version will have such features.

Nintendo will release both Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii this month in Europe, ahead of the US. In a separate statement, the Mario Factory also released its latest financial figures today.

Nintendo's lineup, listed in full below, also confirms that Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice will be arriving May 9.

Nintendo are stupid. Why are they doing this? unacceptable. You cant delay a game so long and then expect people to pay £40. You knnow what nintendo bring this F**king game or dont I dont care either way, after this I may never buy another Nintendo console out of fear of waiting months for it

Wow.. Being somewhat of a Nintendo fan, the release date difference feels like a **** slap"! Do they even care about Europe!? I mean..June!? So unfair, by then all of Europe is just using a US Brawl that was bought off E-Bay, way to go Nintendo! :(

*Counts days on fingers, realizes that it doesn't mention Australia. Dies.*

A big reason why Europe takes so long is because "Europe" incorporates many countries with multiple languages and laws. So localization does take awhile, and they refuse to release games as they get them done.

This sucks, The companies are only worried that the game won't sell well, and that is s***, If companies like Square Enix, and nintendo sat down and looked at the pass games sold, Final Fantasy ALWAYS!!! sell well, as well with any Mario Game, Just release it the same time, please guys.

I'm just glad they have a final release date, but i don't get why they go through the trouble of using different systems for the wii, (e.g. "PAL") why not just make them all the same to start off with? then everything could get done faster...

I expected Mario Kart released ahead of Brawl in PAL regions but not Wii Fit and WIiWare, they really need to get their priorities right.

I love how any Europeans who are annoyed at Nintendo and express it in their comments are given a thumbs down, fanboys now a days, if you guys were in a position where this game was released in both Japan and Europe but wouldn't be released in America for another 3 months, you'd be pissed off too!

27 June! This is absolutely ridiculous! Why does it take so long? its not like it needs to be translated, agreeably i know most americans speak a very primitive form of english but im sure we would have coped.

Nintendo is gonna have a slow Q2,3, and 4 especially after this ridiculous Q1. Looking at the gameslist confirms this I declare a stock and profits freefall.

As an European I have very little respect towards Nintendo. They have been having huge delays for the games over here and I will never get a Nintendo platform again after being treated like this during this generation.

They should include Zelda PhantomGlass for the Nintendo Channel

Normally I have nothing but good things to say about Nintendo, but making Europeans wait three months longer to buy SSBB than I had to is a bit ridiculous. I could have excused this because of all of the different languages spoken in Europe compared to America, but the difference between the European and American release dates for Mario Kart Wiii only a few weeks. Nintendo has been great lately but they definitely dropped the ball on this one.

God damn guys, stop moaning, the best stuff always come to those who wait. Nintendo's idea of the Wiiware is good (albeit not original), but the Nintendo channel will steal it (if the DS games are less than £15) and their size is small so it'll be quick. Plus Supersmash bros. GOOD TIMES!!

Ha lol Nintendo's game lineup is so bad. For a moment I thought Gamespot was playing a joke but then I remembered that NINTENDO SUCKS!

Is the US getting the Nintendo Channel the same day as Europe or what?

exavior17
exavior17

@ hathejoker. Nintendo Channel is that channel that Japan got last year that lets you download DS game demos from the internet into your DS via the Wii. I've been wondering when anyone not in Japan was going to get it. Looks likes the answer is May.

madmanjim

i dnt wana start an arguement but its not translating it its getting through the company that rates the games there anoyingly strict thats y gta4 and halo 3 took so long they were world wide release dates so they spent months just getting them rated it sucks a$$

Twili

I'm happy we finnaly have a release date but 5 months after japan and 3 after US? And EK-andy they do have to translate it to other EU languages for the PAL version. Your wii is probably set to english so the game is in english.

Generic_Dude
Generic_Dude

Europe still doesn't have Brawl? Jeez... and I was complaining about River City Ransom being released late in the US. Apologies to my friends across the sea. That being said, what's the deal with the DS games? Are they going to be playable on Wii or is there going to be a storage device for the DS released?

Ek-Andy
Ek-Andy

@ Whellock. I dont think Nintendo actually translate the game into several languages. I recently bought Links crossbow training in Germany, and the game was in English. This may be diffrent, but i very much doubt it.

Ek-Andy
Ek-Andy

June? Im sorry did i hear that right? I thought this game was out in America last month, so its allready in English meaning it dosnt need to be translated. What the hell? No, this is not fair. This is deliberatly holding back a product to avoid the launch of GTA 4, becuase Nintendo know it wont sell, and anything said otherwise is a downright lie. If this is the way Nintendo plan to treat potential European customers then i am, for the first time in ages, glad I bought an Xbox 360.

StarFox-Elite
StarFox-Elite

@Whellock - I just wanna say in the most non-hostile way possible to you that all stuff you hear about translating to PAL and different languages is the biggest pile of **** I have ever heard from Nintendo, they say that but I have an american copy of Brawl that works on my wii when I use a cheat-disc style program called Freeloader. The game isn't THAT hard to translate to PAL at all if one disc called Freeloader can be put in, then taken out and a foreign game put in. And Britain at least, speaks the same language as the US, we are not part of Italy or France or Germany, we do not speak their language so its just pathetic that we had to wait so long. Its not surprising me and many others resorted to importing the game.

People can go on about translations and such as much as they like, explain Mario Kart Wii.

VenomRitual

i really think its important to release a game simultaneously in all regions. b4 SSBB even made it to the U.S., all the secrets were out(characters, modes, extras). europe should have gotten it sooner

thk123
thk123

@Whellock While I will admit there are certain things to do, the delays for Europeans are unacceptable, not least because no other publisher has this problem. Halo 3 came out 1 day late in the UK, Super Paper Mario was 8 months late. It isn't like Nintendo is some indie dev of 1 person who is toiling night and day on the translations, the delays Nintendo do for Europe is just unacceptable.

ExuNavarinIdara
ExuNavarinIdara

Sorry Nintendo, too little too late. I'm diverting my money into something else. A nice HD monitor for my 360, perhaps. You dropped the ball and lost a customer. (I say that, but I know I'll probably end up buying it and a Wii anyway.)
