Nintendo confirms save-breaking Pokemon X and Y bug, promises fix

Saving outside of a building in Lumiose City can cause problems, Nintendo confirms.

Nintendo of Japan has confirmed previous reports that Pokemon X and Y contains a rare, save-corrupting bug, and says that it is working on a fix that players should be able to download soon.

The bug is caused when players attempt to save their game outside a building in Lumiose City, Nintendo says. The company has also produced a map showing the affected area.

Users who claim to have been affected by the bug report that their save files are made completely inaccessible. Nintendo's fix, when released, should be able to restore the saves of players, the company adds.

Both physical and digital versions of the game are said to be affected.

Pokemon X and Pokemon Y launched worldwide last week, selling over four million copies in its first weekend on sale.

You can't actually be that lazy, can you guys?
The map is easy to read, you don't need to know Japanese.
Route 14 to the north
Route 13 to the west
Route 5 to the southwest
Route 4 to the southeast
Route 16 to the east
North Boulevard is the top half of the blue circle
South Boulevard is the bottom half of the blue circle
The last three are clearly pokemon centers

This is all because stupid game freak doesn't makes more than one save slot .

So  that if anything happened we could just backup our save games.

Now they will have to fix the bug and find a way to give back the save file for those who lost it due to the bug.  If we had more than one save slot they would only need to fix the bug  , since I suppose that smart people backup save slots  and save games when they have more than one  saving slot.

I imagine the first " Poor Bastard." that found out this bug.

He must have got pretty damn frustrated.

Is it alright to save within the Pokemon centre and not have danger of the glitch?.

there is another bug that i have noticed, the megastone quest doesn't always trigger after you become champion.

For those asking, yes, the blue areas have the issue.  The main streets have issues if you load a save game there, though the back alleys and spoke streets are apparently safe.  You can also save indoors.

Bugs suck, though I can see how a save bug could slip through beta testing.  The folks testing the game are probably playing 4+ hour play sessions, interacting with every object in the game and putting it through its paces.  But they probably didn't think to do a whole lot of save game loading during that time.  And even if they did load in the bugged areas, the problem doesn't always occur.

Must be the GTA Online bug that's been going around. Wash your hands regularly, people, and stay healthy!

I saved there 3 or 4 times and nothing ever got glitched. Guess I lucked out!

As games become more complex it's hard to find the problems.

Glitch? What glitch I have yet to suffer a single glitch playing Pokemon X.

I'm not saying glitches didn't exist at all you pedants. I'm just saying there's a general trend of game-breaking glitches (not just Pokémon) being increasingly common these days. Besides, the Rare Candy glitch and Missingno were awesome glitches. I can live with those.

@jacksamuk
I hardly see that as a fix since most people don't use a second save as a back up and even if they did, there's still a high chance they would consider the main city of the region a good place to back up their save file.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be nice to have more than one file (Although it simply won't ever happen, for fairly obvious reasons), but your point doesn't seem very well thought out.

@Luke Williams The faster a game is shipper, the earlier a game company gets money. The trend nowadays is "ship now, fix the game later", which is bad. The game breaking bugs is a great example, just like DLC.

@Tyler Dnap VanNeste Yeah there was a glitch in red and blue involving surf which would allow you to obtain infinite rare candies

DarkFrankhs

@clouduos The whole reason that doesn't happen is that you could trade away a pokemon and resume a save that has that pokemon still. It has to have one save - otherwise it would be WAY too easy to exploit.

@quickshooterMk2 Sometimes bugs are very tricky and elusive to find that no amount of testing could reveal them until the game/software is released. And no, bug testing is not done for free. It's a professional's job to find bugs. User experience testing on the other hand could be done for free in very certain cases.

@Kristan1711 Pokemon has a free save system, What you're suggesting would be reasonably difficult and probably would throw up about 90 other issues

@HonorOfGod To be honest, with your short temper I doubt you even supported the game to begin with. It's actually kind of hilarious how impatient people like you are these days. Really childish when you think about it.

@amphercut @jacksamuk

I see what you mean.

I may have pointed out in a wrong way.  Its just that I get mad that they don't give us one more saving slot.

Not  only because of the bug "  I just used the bug as an excuse to point out my frustration for having only one saving option. " . But I lost my game once due to something that I can't explain "  The game suddenly couldn't load." .

I had more than 800 hours played in the game,  had precious Pokemon , and I got really pissed of with that.

If I had at least one more saving slot , I would have definitely made a backup and wouldn't lose my entire game.

clouduos

Yep good point . Still they can do 3 slots but with some restriction .

matics27

@DarkFrankhs @clouduos  You do realize that people who have both x and y are already doing the exact same thing your mentioning right now right? So they might as well have given us 3 save files.

@matics27 @HonorOfGod It's a video game website what do you expect. Most of these people are either children or twenty somethings in the midst of a life crises.

DarkFrankhs
DarkFrankhs

@matics27 @DarkFrankhs @clouduos No - because if I have 3 save slots:  1- Save before catching Mewtwo. 2 - use my master ball and catch Mewtwo. 3 - Trade Mewtwo to my friend or my other version. 4 - Load the previous save. 5 - Catch Mewtwo with master ball..... Rinse and repeat.  Infinite Mewtwo in very little time. If you have 2 different versions you'll have to go through both games (7 hours each at pace) to get just 2 Mewtwos.
