Nintendo has confirmed a fifth playable character for upcoming Mario romp Super Mario 3D World.

Showcased in a new trailer for the game is Super Mario Galaxy star Rosalina as a hidden unlockable. She has the power to use the spin attack from the Mario Galaxy games, and joins Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Peach in the upcoming four-player platformer.

Nintendo's latest trailer also shows off the game's touch screen and microphone features, as well as Captain Toad levels.

Super Mario 3D World is being developed by Nintendo EAD Tokyo Group 2, who previously developed Super Mario 3D Land on the 3DS and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii.

Super Mario 3D World will be released for Wii U on November 22.

Nintendo isn't the underdog. If it weren't for Nintendo your stupid shitty little PlayStation wouldn't even exist.

This game seems more and more like it's an instant classic! For those who've already played Wind Waker on Gamecube, this game seems to be the biggest reason to buy a Wii U. I'm extremely curious to see how the reviews for this game confirm my expectations or not.

@phillip kisau: The New Super Mario Bros. Series has been the same since 2004. But the Galaxy series and 3D land are amazing games that are fresh. The new WiiU game looks amazing.

Actually, it's a bigger step than you think. Shigeru Miyamoto strongly disliked Rosalina and only wanted her appearing in Galaxy. The Mario team was able to overrule Miyamoto on an issue, which is absolutely incredible. I'd like to point out that Miyamoto is the cause of NSMBW and Paper Mario: Sticker Star having no story.

Actually, tons of people like Rosalina.

Although this is fairly minor news in the gaming world, it is actually fairly big for Nintendo. They actually added a new main Mario series character to their collection and appear to want to make her appear in many future games. A new Mario character hasn't been added to the series in basically forever and so them using a character made in the last decade is a step up for them. Granted, it's a much smaller step than they need right now, but it's a solid start.

And the winners are the gamers that care more about the games rather than what conslole they use. Those "gamers" that limit themselves to only PS or Xbox are more brandwhores than gamers.

Rosalina as a fifth player? Is this a hint for Super Mario Galaxy 3?

Very excited, Super Mario Bros. 2 was one of my favorite Mario games and I had a blast with 3D Land so this is a day one pick up for me.

@Akshay Bordawekar And how does that make the worthless garbage Nintendo have been putting out the last few years better? Explain your logic.

@bruno_fmenedes Instant Classic? You mean copying the same boring crap they have been doing for years makes it a classic? o_O

@DarthLod @bruno_fmenedes Why you so angry for? Its true, without Nintendo taking risks on how gaming can be played, no other system would take the same risks. Nintendo came out with Motion controls, Playstation came out with move and Xbox came out with Kinect. The idea of changing the way we play games came from Nintendo, just keep that in mind. Now they have a gamepad/tablet style of gameplay, now Sony, is using the PS vita to do the same, and xbox enhanced the kinect. Nintendo is also backwards compatible with Wii games and controls. The company did not abandoned long time wii owners to!!!. Yet you mock them because they revamp older games, make them in HD and add a shit load of content? I can tell you this, I have all 3 systems, and WII U is by far the smoothest and most entertaining system to play. When touching the game pad I can feel the quality. So don't be so hard on the company who tries to create different ways of playing games.
