Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus stalking PS Vita launch date

Tecmo Koei confirms handheld remake of brutal PS3 action game will debut with Sony's new portable on February 22.

by

Prior to the holiday break, Sony announced that 25 retail and digital games would be available for the PlayStation Vita when it launches in North America on February 22. Sony pegged an additional 10 games for release within the system's launch window, one of which is Tecmo Koei's Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus.

Normally, one dude is no match for a tank. However, Ryu Hayabusa is no normal dude.

Tecmo Koei appears to have other plans, as the publisher today promoted its launch window release to launch date release, announcing a February 22 bow for Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus. The game is an update of the 2007 PlayStation 3 release Ninja Gaiden Sigma, which was itself an enhanced version of the 2004 Xbox title Ninja Gaiden.

The PS Vita version of Ninja Gaiden Sigma will, of course, play heavily to the new handheld's technical features, including the touch screen, gyro sensor, and rear touch pad. Other additions to the PS Vita version include the ability to switch between first- and third-person view and gyro-sensor-facilitated targeting.

I hope this one gets a good score, so far vita games go around 7, but this game has been awesome 3 times already so it's hard to mess it up

Love the NG games but I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that it will "play heavily to the new handheld's technical features, including the touch screen, gyro sensor, and rear touch pad". I suppose taking advantage of the new features of the PSV is great and all, but I really hope they don't force the user away from more traditional inputs. The fights are a bit too fast-paced and technical for me to worry about swiping the rear pad or, worse, covering the screen for a split-second (which could mean death in these games) in order to input a touch command.

Hopefully they don't censor it like they did with the Ninja Gaiden 2 port. Still, if anyone out there has yet to play a version of Ninja Gaiden yet, find one (any one) and do it.

@graveyardfire Very good, very hard. If you like a challenge then it's good.

I've played lots of Ninja Gaiden (because I love it) such but not sure this sounds so appealing. After all in comparison to sigma (which didn't add too much unlike sigma 2) there isn't that much new that I haven't seen in Ninja Gaiden Black already. Oh and the 'including the touch screen, gyro sensor, and rear touch pad. Other additions to the PS Vita version include the ability to switch between first- and third-person view and gyro-sensor-facilitated targeting.' These just sound dumb, really dumb. They don't lend themselves to the fast paced gameplay in any way, taking your control of the system down just so you can say you touched the back of the portable to do something? What a crap idea. I know when features are just being tacked on and this is definitely the time. Again I love Ninja Gaiden, played NG, NG Sigma, NG Black, NG 2 and NG Sigma 2 but these additions are nothing special. Unless of course you've not played the games before, then go ahead as it's pretty awesome.

Even with trophy support I can't see myself buying this again. Sigma is cheap on PS3 and still looks and plays awesome. If you haven't played before however? What's wrong with you lol :P

@graveyardfire Even if this game is that good for so many re releases, must be hard to recommend if you already played the hell out of Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and sadly in this current gen this game difficulty can be uninviting.

Hmm...something just sounds weird about a game being a remake of a remake....hopefully it doesn't turn into a trend...from a gaming industry that already has enough problem with constant sequels....

Why do I get the feeling that constant rehashes of PS2 and PS3 titles is eventually going to kill the Vita? It's certainly what killed the PSP...

Played the first Ninja Gaiden and Sigma but the thought of playing it on the move is really interesting. Finally, something worth getting the Vita for. Not sure if I want it yet....until of course they put a new god of war and Yakuza :)

I've already bought this game three times.... Ninja Gaiden...Ninja Gaiden Black.....Ninja Gaiden Sigma I'm not planning on buying it again, especially if it has that horrible feature that they added to Sigma where you had to shake the controller to power-up your Ninpo. Imagine having to do that with the Vita. It would be horrible.

Ninja Gaiden has always been a passion of mine all the way back to the NES days... but this is getting ridiculus. Tecmo is treating Ninja Gaiden the same way Capcom treats Street Fighter 2. I'm not buying into it this time. I'd rather you focus on a new game. Heck, if you want to do a remake, do it on the NES versions of 1-3 and make it look like the new ones. I'd love to see that.

Has the first Ninja Gaiden had enough updates yet? Seriously.

Don't know if a re-remake could save the VITA in NA.Hopefully more titles come to it.

"The game is an update of the 2007 PlayStation 3 release Ninja Gaiden Sigma, which was itself an enhanced version of the 2004 Xbox title Ninja Gaiden." Wasn't Sigma an enhanced version of Black? Which makes Black an enhanced version of the original 2004 Ninja Gaiden. I only played Black on xbox so I am not sure.

Hayashi, still not doing anything completely original.

A new system deserves a new title. A remake of a remake isn't exactly something to get excited about.
