Ninja Gaiden 3 on the Move

Tecmo Koei tapping PlayStation 3 motion-control system for the latest installment in its hyperviolent ninja-action series.

by

Tecmo Koei announced today that Ninja Gaiden 3--the latest entry in its popular and long-running action series--will feature PlayStation Move support, allowing would-be ninjas to control actions via their own real-life movements.

Ninja Gaiden 3 will feature full ninja-mimicking support.

Team Ninja head Yosuke Hayashi said in a statement that the PlayStation Move compatibility will "bring players closer to the game's protagonist, Ryu Haybusa," which falls in line with the studio's attempts to deliver a more visceral action experience. Additionally, the game will support all PlayStation Move peripherals. It remains to be seen how the individual peripherals will be used to control Ryu's various actions.

In addition to motion control support, Ninja Gaiden 3 will carry other features that are new to the series, including online multiplayer functionality that supports up to eight players. The game is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. For more information on Ninja Gaiden 3, be sure to check out GameSpot's most recent preview.

LoL, Will Ninja Gaiden 3 have a dance mini-game where you use the Move controller to strikes poses like in the Just Dance games ?

One game I would have listed had I not been limited to that range and criteria is Shadow Complex but because it came out 1 year prior to it, it could not be listed. There is no multiplayer in it despite a slight online component to it, it is still truly a singleplayer game. You'd have to pretty much hate both The Bourne Identity and Super Metroid to not like this game.

@Infinity_Gauntl Thing is videolunatico had a very specific criteria and it was limited to *games that came out betwixt Aug 19, 2010 and Aug 19, 2011. No fair going outside of that criteria. Heavy Rain came out before Aug 19, 2010, Deus Ex: HR hasn't even been released yet, Rayman : Origins has not been released yet, Metal Gear Solid came out 2 years prior to the range established. Basically, the games in question had to have been released with in that* range and its no fair going prior to that range or beyond it. Otherwise I would have listed other games as well.

@GeigerdolylWodd what the hell are you talking about?... I'm not saying that games that are focus on online multiplayer are bad, what I was trying to get at is that companies now days don't want to make games that don't have online features, because they want to milk the crap out of their games as much as possible... now days solo games are almost gone if I ask you to name five games that came out no more than one year ago that had no online multiplayer or any online crap, that are actually good I'm pretty sure you would have a hard time giving me a list or rather I would say that is impossible to make such a list

@videolunatico Couldn't agree with you more on the multiplayer aspect - it seems that gone are the NES days when the games were sold solely on the basis of the strength of their single player / co-op but devoid of online multiplayer campaigns. Today, only a few companies seem to get the single player right. Rockstar / Take-Two is one example for me - the Grand Theft Auto series of games and L.A. Noire are perhaps great examples !!!

@videolunatico I don't know Unreal Championship 2:The Liandri Conflict had 8 player multiplayer and it had a relatively deep fighting system
in addition to firstperson shooting (and you could switch camera perspectives betwixt 3rd person and firstperson view).
So they have a solid foundation to follow if they want to for the multiplayer.

Ninja Gaiden was my favorite game back on the OG Xbox. Hard as hell, fast & furious, and I had the moves down-pat. NG2 seemed different to me though... I just wasn't as into it for some reason. I didn't even try to finish it. Now that Itagaki left Tecmo and the real members of Team Ninja followed him out the door, I wonder if Ninja Gaiden 3 will be any good. When Itagaki left Tecmo that's all I thought..."Noooo, now NG's gonna stink!" I hope they do a good job. It's mostly a whole new team developing it now.

The fact that they were toning down Ninja Gaiden's relentless soul crushing difficulty and then trying to shoehorn multiplayer into this game and now motion controls has pretty much doomed this game.

I guess they had to find some use for the Move though, it's like even Sony forgot it existed. Well atleast they're not trying to force the MOVE on folks like the 360 is with Kinect lol.

@blasterchief, I hate to admit it but the move is a nice paperweight, and own one also.........

I am not sure the Move will provide the level of precision required for the (demanding) combat of the Ninja Gaiden series!

Why that violence downgrade?. what is their problem? I think they lost a costumer here...

@simon_levane Bit early to say that about the third one. I just hope they balance it a bit; the first one was challenging hard, the second was plain cheap.

So when can we all see a 'demo'?

Unlike "God of War", this is a franchise that seems to degrade in quality with every new release. One of my favorite games of all time is the original XBOX action masterpiece. It's such a shame to see such inferior sequels being produced. Oh well, such is life.

I have to say the industry is dying, now days every f$#@ing game has to have a online multiplayer even if this makes no sense what so ever.

I think with Metroid Other M, Dead or Alive Paradise, and Sigma 2; Team Ninja just can't do anything right without Itagaki.

I might be the only person in saying this, but this game looks like garbage... When compared to the past two games. It's easy to come to the conclusion that this game is more geared towards button mashers, what with it's constant quick-time events (which is a form of slacking, in my opinion), and an easy difficulty. Why Team Ninja can't stay away from devolution is way beyond me, but I guess money talks.

HNNNG I can see myself flailing my arms around hopelessly in my living room, I think I'll stick with normal controllers for the ninja gaiden action level.

Before adding move functionality, how about fixing the camera. I love these games but someone has got to retool the 3rd person view.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Hayashi, what the hell are you doing to our beloved series? Well, I could tolerate the missing dismemberment's, since I didn't care about the violence. The only thing I cared about, is the deep fighting mechanics & its visceral difficulty. Everything else, was just icing on the Cake. But motion controls? HECK NO!!!! (well, I suppose there is going to be a standard controller option, but just the motion idea feels wrong in this Game) & just for the record, about those QTE 's (I know, I has been bothering me to). I went searching for all the possible interviews on the net. & they said, that they aren't implementing QTE's in the Game. That was just the tutorial level, that teaches the Player to play the Game. So all those button prompts will be gone later in the Game. (sure hope so)

@DecadesOfGaming THANK YOU! ...and multiplayer, WTF? coop with 2 people was waste enough of resources, but now the sp will be as short as they can get it. went from one of my favorite series, to a $20 purchase (if that).

TrueProphecy22
TrueProphecy22

Slowing down Ninja Gaiden's combat like that seems... wrong. It's about being fast and flashy, interrupting the combat with slow motion QTE's every ten seconds seems to, at the very least, take away the fast part. As to the move support.. I'm glad that mainstream games are adapting Move as optional control, but I can't imagine how the precise controls of a NG game can translate into motion. I'm worried about waggle and kill here.
