NFL Sunday Ticket won't be offered on PS3 this year

DirecTV app won't return to PlayStation 3 for this football season after Microsoft signs deal with NFL.

by

DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket, which allows users to watch any out-of-market NFL game, will not be available on PlayStation 3 this season.

A PlayStation representative confirmed the news to IGN, though no explanation was given as to why the service has been pulled.

During the Xbox One announcement in May, Microsoft announced a new partnership with the NFL estimated to be valued at $400 million over five years.

"When we look for partners, we look for the best," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said at the time. "From a technology standpoint, Xbox/Microsoft--there's no one better.

NFL Sunday Ticket was first offered through the PlayStation Network for the 2011 season.

Huge fan of the NFL. Also a huge fan of Sony. That being said, thanks, Sony, for not making an exclusivity deal with the NFL your pirority and focusing on your gaming console for gaming purposes.

Just buy the $99 madden version on amazon. sunday ticket for your computer. then plug your computer into your tv. problem solved. Plus, if you don't want madden turn around and sell it for $50. sunday ticket for $50. You're welcome

Dammit!!! I planned on buying it on my ps3 this year! Can't get Direct TV cause of all the trees, so I was just gonna fork out the $$ to watch my Niners play on my ps3. Well, I guess I'll have to go another route.

Looks like EA, NFL, and Microsoft are all in bed together.

PS. I hate exclusive deals.

That's one major reason why I switched to PC Gaming. All these exclusive deals can drive you bonkers. Just give me an open platform that doesn't try to take every ounce of control away from the user.

i think that what he meant?

Should I care? And I'm saying this as someone that watches the NFL, but I use the PC soooo, yeah.

It's ok, if the NFL wants to be so exclusive I can just stream their games on my pc for free.

Good news. Hopefully they will do something on the X1 with this. That said, lame they can't do it for both consoles.

I don't care to much about this. It's great for the NFL fanatic who will be getting a XBox One. I love NFl Football, but I don't have time to be watching every game on Sunday.

damn, I wish this was at least on one of the consoles

Personally I would say 400million is the real reason... tech is pretty much the same. If someone gives you a lot of money to say something you most likely will do it. That being said nice move by Microsoft in this console warz even though it won't move units most likely

100 to 1 they offered the deal to sony first and sony was to cheap to do it for their fans...

Amazon had a nice promotion a few days back....Madden 25 game XB/PS3 ships with a code for NFL Sunday ticket Max for $99.99!

I'll give my stepson the game (X360 version), but I feel bad for anyone that got this on the PS3 and now can't even use it without some difficulty unless you have Directv.

Kind of sh*tty that this drops now....you would think that the NFL would have been happy to take money from both platforms, but everything console related has to be the "official" something of something anymore and cram the exclusives one way or another while sticking it to the other guy.

On a complete side note....College Football games etc. are pretty much on their way out as we know it too due to legal fears and greed with the NCAA.  I'm sure there are stories out there if you want to go and look them up, but man I get kind of embarrassed for the way things have gotten to be anymore.

I'm off to play my NES and reminisce about simpler times : )

ill bet now certain people are going to start bashing the nfl (even fans of nfl football) because of this announcement...wait for it

The NFL didn't want Sunday Ticket to go down from an inevitable brick from a download or be down two months from the next hack.

Looks like I won't be watching Aaron Hernandez rack it up this year on the PS3 :(

@RicanV you are a huge fan of the NFL, but yet you are thankful that it is leaving the PS3? Also, sony is bringing tv services to the PS4, the "gaming" machine, LoL

@chiyochan111 when it comes to tech I would NOT say that Microsoft (SKYNET), is pretty much the same as sony.

@chiyochan111 Oh, it's definitely all about the money.  Still, smart move by MS.  They know North America is key again for them and this should help in the region.

@sadscooterpipe I'm kind of confused about that package.  I have DirecTV and it showed an option if you're not a DirecTV subscriber or if you are a subscriber and already have NFL ticket - but they didn't say what would happen if you have DirecTV and don't already have NFL ticket.  Do you know if I'll get NFL ticket on DirecTV if I'm a member who doesn't already have the NFL ticket.

@sadscooterpipe I picked up that Madden package as well...mostly for the Sunday Ticket.  I'm not the greatest Madden gamer, but the package is worth it.

@grognard If I follow you correctly, you should be able to simply call up Directv once you get the game and give them the code to activate the service....much like a PPV movie or activating HBO.  I am sure it will ship with instructions and you might even be able to do it on the computer along with your account number.

Since you have Directv already, you wont have a problem.  My wife got me the Sunday Ticket last year, which is why I jumped all over this.....loved it!

@lostastsea22485 I don't think I have ever played Madden, but it more than covers the cost of the Sunday Ticket a couple of times.  Great deal!

@northArrow @inscript NFL, please take a hot shower before you come to bed with us, I don't know what types of germs you contracted from that foul smelling PS3  :)

@sadscooterpipe @grognard @lostastsea22485 Thanks for looking into that guys!  Yeah, I actually have one of my PC's hooked up to one of my TV's so it's not a big deal.  It would have been nice to have it on DirecTV so I could watch it on any TV, but I'm just being whiny now.  :)

sadscooterpipe

@grognard Hey man, it looks like I told you wrong, so I hope you see this.  The code will ONLY activate the Sunday Ticket on a mobile device (phone/tablet/computer).  It will not work on your Directv receiver.  My bad!....and thanks to @lostastsea22485 for catching my mistake.

Just run a connection from your computer to your tv if you want it on your big screen....or do what I did, watch the National/Local games on the flat screen and put the Red Zone next to you on the laptop.

@sadscooterpipe Thanks.  I was probably reading too much in the way they worded the offer!  :)

sadscooterpipe
sadscooterpipe

@lostastsea22485 You are right!  Looks like it just activates it on your phone/tablet/computer and not your Directv receiver.  Balls!  Here comes the HDMI connection from the laptop to the bigscreen.

Good Call!

lostastsea22485
lostastsea22485

@sadscooterpipe Well now the deal is to have it for free on moble, computer, ect...but it doesn't cover the TV, even if you have DirectTV..it just takes 10 dollars off.

@grognard @Celsius765 @DirtyJ @lucivar1 regardless accounts were hijacked, credit card info stolen and used to fraudulently buy MMMMMMMS points. And lets not forget MS they aren't gonna report all suspicious activity on XBL especially if it damages their reputation.

@Celsius765 @DirtyJ @lucivar1 You don't understand what "hacked" means.  Live has never been hacked.

Social engineering by calling customer service and tricking some minimum wage employee to give a few details and repeating that trick until you have enough to access the account is not the same as hacking servers.
