NFL Blitz tops PSN January sales

EA Sports' arcade football game leads Sony's monthly sales chart; NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat collection, Infamous: Festival of Blood, and Sonic CD round out top five.

Sony today released its list of the top 20 best-selling PlayStation Network games for the month of January, revealing NFL Blitz to be the top-selling game during the month.

NFL Blitz tackled the competition on the PSN in January.

The $15 arcade football game was released on January 3 and features two-minute quarters of penalty-free action and over-the-top hits. The game was developed by Madden house EA Tiburon. Rounding out the top five were NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, Infamous: Festival of Blood, and Sonic CD.

As for best-selling PlayStation 3 add-ons, Battlefield 3's Back to Karkand expansion--which went on sale in December--was the biggest digital ware of January. The PSOne Classics category was dominated by Square Enix titles from the Final Fantasy and Chrono Cross series, with Corpse Party and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X grabbing the top two spots on the PSP-specific charts.

There is no mention anywhere I can find that PS3 has released update 4.10 or even the optional 4.11 or that PS2 games are now available.... I thought it would have been mentioned somewhere in the PS3 section!? Its interesting news surely for PS3 owners?

Obviously the people buying Blitz didn't bother to try the demo before purchasing. Buyer beware. The game sucks if you like the old Blitz games.

@DrKill09 I agree. My friend file-shared NFL Blitz with me. It's not that good. Also, I hate EA too. Only game by EA I support is NBA Street and Battlefield. Oh, and SSX. They are so greedy, forcing(for the lack of a better word) NFL fans to buy Madden. NFL 2k5 is better than Madden 12 IMO. I can't wait til 2ks return to football whenever the NFL license expires. Hopefully the NFL don't get greedy and let EA renew it

They kinda taken the fun out of Blitz. I love being able to leg drop someone 3 more times while he's on the ground.

I put so many quarters into Blitz at the bowling alley when I was a kid... and then so much time into my copy on the 64. However, I don't really feel any interest in buying this one.

@lanmanna I'm 25. Yeah, I liked NFL Blitz BACK THEN. I used to be addicted to Blitz 2001 on the Dreamcast, and used to play Blitz 20 03 on the XBox1 a lot as well, but after the League came out, I just can't go back to them. They are boring. Also, I refuse to support EA and it's monopoly on the NFL. Just cause someone has a differing opinion doesn't mean they are young.

@DrKill09 How old are you? IF you are old enough, you would remember NFL Blitz in the arcade. This PSN/XBLA title is based off that. Not the gritty crud that was Blitz the League.

Call of Duty: Black ops is listed as an add-on? Oh, the irony.
