Next Dragon Quest confirmed?
Series composer Koichi Sugiyama indirectly reveals the existence of Dragon Quest IX.
At a game-music concert in Tokyo, Koichi Sugiyama--the musical composer of Square Enix's Dragon Quest franchise--let slip that the ninth game in the role-playing series is reportedly in development, according to a Dengeki Online article. "I don't know when it will go on sale, but [designer] Yuji Horii seems to be working on something for Dragon Quest IX, and as a gamer myself, I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of design he comes up with," Sugiyama said, without mentioning a platform.
The acclaimed composer made the comments in Tokyo on August 11 at a Dragon Quest-themed concert, called The World of Dragon Quest, as part of the 20th Family Classic Concert. At the event, Sugiyama conducted a symphony in the performance of several tunes from the first eight Dragon Quest games.
