NewsSpots: Sprint, Mushroom Men, Naruto

Sony Online brings retro arcade racer to PS3 tomorrow; Gamecock brings Red Fly fungi to Wii and DS; anime series gets its first RPG in North America.

Championship Sprint arrives on PS3
The latest retro entry for the PlayStation 3 online store is almost here, as Sony Online Entertainment has announced that it will release Championship Sprint to North American gamers tomorrow. The game's arrival on the PlayStation Network for $4.99 will bring SOE up to date on all its announced retro offerings for the PS3.

Mushroom Men sprout on DS, Wii
When Gamecock Media Group formed earlier this year, it offered sketchy details on its opening slate of titles. One of those games, Red Fly Studio's Mushroom Men, was announced as only being for a next-generation platform and a handheld gaming system. Today Gamecock removed some of the mystery surrounding the game, confirming that it will arrive on the Nintendo DS and the Wii in the fall of 2008. It had previously been expected in the spring of 2008.

Naruto RPG coming to DS
Ubisoft's upcoming Xbox 360 actioner Naruto: Rise of the Ninja may be capturing most of the gaming buzz surrounding the series, but it's far from the only excursion into gaming for the popular anime. D3Publisher of America and Tomy today announced that they would release Naruto: Path of a Ninja (working title) for the Nintendo DS this fall. The game will allow players to play as six characters from the series, and will be the first Naruto role-playing game to arrive in North America.

naruto in an rpg sounds something worth looking into.

Well jeez. I love Naruto and all, but some Naruto games really aren't needed. For instance: Ninja Council 3. But anyway, if Path of a Ninja isn't like Ninja Council 3, it sounds good!

Championship Sprint: don't have a PS3... yet Mushroom Met: cool, I hope it rocks Naruto: could be better than a straight-forward action game. Has a really good version ever come out?

Well I'm glad ubisoft is making new naruto games. Their not like atari or anybody else, and butchering the original japanese games with their horrible translations and different music.

Naw... more action/adventure... but then so is Zelda and people try and call that an RPG... and Diablo to... like Diablo should share the same genre as Baldure's Gate 1 and 2+Throne of Bhall. I'm interested in the 360 version... can Ubisoft pull it off... and the game looks almost just like the animated series... of which I've been watching since 2002.

True Sony should definitely step up the quality game production if they're gonna get anywhere on it. Like my fat friend said: "PS3 has got a lot on it and a lot of potential to gain or lose. Just like I have a lot on me and potential to gain or lose." Not trying to be funny, but seriously, PS3 will only "win" like all the analysts are saying if the games come. It's the games that sell the console, not the features. You could have the worlds most powerful console that can find the cure for cancer, but if the games suck, no one will buy it.

The problem with the RPG games is that it has a fast level up system.

I am actually excited to see Naruto being expressed as more than a fighting game in America. Of course, Naruto actually had an RTS back on the GBA (along with a few RPG's) for the japanese crowd back when the series was new. They aren't spectacular games, but they are fundamentally sound and playable to followers of the series.
