NewsSpots: Forza 2 demo, GRAW2 maps, new Spider-Man

Downloadable sample of Microsoft's latest racer imminent; Tom Clancy tactical shooter gets new retro playfields; Activision already promoting next webslinger game.

Forza 2 demo revving engines
Xbox 360 owners who have an eye on Forza Motorsport 2 but would like a chance to kick the tires and take it for a spin before committing to a purchase may want to load up on caffeinated beverages. According to a moderator on the game's official forums, the demo "should" go live tonight around 11 p.m. Pacific time.

GRAW2 gets retro maps
Everything old is new again, as the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 Throwback Pack is now available on the Xbox 360 Live Marketplace. Tactical shooter fans who download the seven-map pack will find it contains "re-mastered" versions of playfields from previous Ghost Recon games. The Throwback Pack costs 800 Marketplace Points ($10).

Activision teases next Spider-Man game
It's been less than a week since Activision blitzed retailers with a full line of games based on the blockbuster film Spider-Man 3--which got less than stellar reviews. Nonetheless, the publisher is already turning the promotional gears for its next game starring the friendly neighborhood arachnid. A new teaser site has gone up for Spider-Man: Friend or Foe, with a Fall 2007 release date and the tagline "A new twist on the legend. A new take on the movies..." No platforms are mentioned, and the Entertainment Software Rating Board notice on the page says the game has not yet been rated.

this looks to have brought back the classic spidey humor which is a + but hopefully we will be able to use the other characters otherwise its just another game thats ambitious in the beginning and will fizzle out when its played. also the game looks slightly cell shaded which is good, any one agree that ultimate spiderman was better than sm3? even though a real time graphic venom would be awesome a cell shaded one was still as good and at least in usm u got to play as him quite a good bit almost equal time between spidey an venom. i would also like to see carnage in a upcoming game that would be amazing and the developers could bring back the absorbing people that was the nutz. i wonder if anyone else out there got all meteorite fragments and spider emblems to only receive the black suit again which still makes u black out minus the fun of taking it off. any way enough about that let down, lets hope they compensate us all for the lack of venom this time round with alot more come back to elements i.e when you finish the game theres plenty to keep you playing and i dont mean make us frustrated looking for hundreds of objects that act as a needle in a hay stack.

Forza Motorsport is easily one of the greatest racing franchises available today. Not saying it's the best (though that is arguable) but anybody who says it's not good just doesn't know his stuff. I would think the Spider-Man games would have a broad-spectrum release (i.e. all platforms) just like Spider-Man 3 did. Even with the poor reviews, it could be a cash cow for Sony. I wonder if a collection of old maps is worth $10...

That's a pretty good price for a map pack, way to go Microsoft.

It is amazing how accurate the physics are in that game, it's an incredibly fun game too.

hrrmmm, i enjoyed the forza 2 demo. great feeling of weight to the cars, good physics, wish the game would have an in car camera like in pgr3 but still seems like its shaping up to be the best racing 'sim' out there, look foward to the retail version.

Hmmmm let's be honest, the game have a great potential but unfortunetly it does not show it...the models of cars are well designed, the track do not have so many details as I expected. The biggest issue is the total lack of the impression of speed. Driving in the classes lowest than "C" is a total boredom, and the car behaves quite strange especially if it comes to braking. The drive in PGR 3 is dynamic and exicting here in forza it is neither fun nor dynamic. Respect.

Played forza demo all i can say is wow, sony fanboys cry now peace.

How can you say the demo licked balls mate. Its insane, turn all the aids off and you will know what its really like to drive a car. Considering it has all the mods/paint upgrades etc for 311 cars you cant expect it to look like GT4 HD, yes it is a bit jaggy I'll admit that but the level of detail and sound put into this game its going to be hard for any game to come close. Dirt is looking good but thats a differant game all together. Forza 2 my friend is a game you will not want to miss (if you like driving that is) unless your a 50cc bike boy.

having both gran turismo hd and now the forza 2 demo, i can safely say that GTHD looks considerably better. in HD the overall look is sharper, the cars are more defined, and the track detail is much better. oh well, graphically HD is better but gameplay-wise (which i know is more important) will probably go to forza 2, its gonna have to anyway, HD isnt coming any time real soon. oh, and im VERY dissapointed they couldnt put in the "behind the wheel" viewpoint from PGR4, that viewpoint was sick and really made the game more exciting to play (it would have rocked online). well, even still i will be buying the crap out of this game.

Wow this will be a whole new way to market games. Make one game when the movie comes out and then put another game out when the DVD comes out. Impressive, very impressive marketing.

taking a look through the posts i see the micro-transaction haters once again crawling out from their kennels and yelping about the cost of downloadable content. the economy of gaming has changed drastically in the past 5 years, namely because technology has moved video games across the cultural barrier that kept them regarded as children's toys. obviously, it's not like that anymore. there were no dedicated video game retail chains in the early eighties, before the crash that gman the doomsayer mentioned, there weren't multi-billion dollar companies producing hardware and the money that's spent now, on games, peripherals, systems...probably wasn't even imagined back then. Gaming in not going to crash. DLC is here to stay, it's simply part of the natural evolution for an industry that's exploded. For the love of God, please stop whining about a few bucks here and there, it will never get to the point where we're actually paying for an unfinished product, consumers wouldn't let that happen..... the polish is there, you're just too busy looking the wrong way. GRAW 2 shipped with over twenty MP maps, that's not enough for you?... you somehow think you're entitled to more, now that's greedy!............ when you buy gas for your car, does that mean your car was unfinished, it should always have a full tank right, i mean you already paid for the car. Cable should be free now that i think of it, it's just more content for a T.V. you already purchased. Every movie sequel should be released at no charge. I could go on and on here, but this post is already too darn long. you guys are just plain silly and lack a serious helping of common sense.... and please don't bring up economics, cause you don't seem to understand it. Even If MP games like GRAW cost $150 dollars, divide that by the number of hours played and see where that leaves your 'hard earned' entertainment dollars compared to say, the movies or rentals. not even close.

Ok, played a little bit of the demo, and TBH it sucked, after hyping it and everything. Like others said it is like a little toy, and when I brake everytime I go into a drift, I'm no idiot, but when you brake you don't go into a drift. I played LFS(Live for Speed) a racing simulator, and when you brake fully you do not go into any drift, and that game is more realistic, this has honestly failed me. Guess, I'm saving my money for DiRT or another worth while game.

Not impressed at all by Forza 2... expected much more. The car looks like toys and you still cant sit in the car and drive, like in gotham racing.. And the graphics, its okey but expected more especially for the track design (gras etc).. Microsoft should have tested GTR2 before they started making the game.

The cars in Forza 2 look like toys. The framerate is somewhat choppy. But otherwise excellent. It sounds awesome hooked up to a 5.1 speaker system tho. Can't wait to get the final version- screw demos!

Bad reviews... But the game really isn't that bad. The occasional camera glitch isn't bad enough to completely dis SM3 the game. The game is fun, shallow, but fun. A game doesn't have to be GAME OF THE YEAR just to do it's job and be entertaining.. That being said, as long as the Spider-man games show improvement everytime around... I'll keep buying them.

Poor reviews doesn't mean that Spiderman is not a huge cash cow for Activision. Any idea how many kids ages 6-13 want these games and DONT read reviews on the internet? TONS

--tnugent7 -- So you're saying Oblivion was not a completed and polished game because they had extra content after the fact? Does that mean if they had released nothing afterwards then it would be truly finished and thus better in your opinion?

The new Spidey looks pretty effin nifty doh cuhz

Krunkcity3000
Krunkcity3000

So all those calling games that offer DLC unfinished are also saying that the massive OBLIVION, which i played on and off for 3-4 months before i downloaded any extra quests, unfinished? Let's get real. There are some rip offs out there but for the most part DLC just adds to the already FINISHED experience. It would be nice to get it all for free but so would somebody just randomly putting new rims and a sound system in my car. Nothing in this world is free. NOTHING. The sooner u realize that, the easier the real world will go for you. And video games have changed to meet a broader audience but there are still games that come out for the hardcore gamer. To say that the 80's or 90's were any better than now a days isnt right in my opinion. Just because you were a child back then, so was I, don't downplay great games like OBLIVION, RS: Vegas, God of War, Shadow of the Collosus etc. etc. anyway my Forza demo just downloaded.........

Quote: hotdork70minus1 "You people and your graphics. Graphics mean nothing if the game sucks." And if a game sucks AND has crappy graphics, what then? Both graphics and gameplay matter. Anyone who says differently is compensating for a lack of one.
