New Yooka-Laylee Trailer Reveals Shovel Knight Cameo

Playtonic Games has released a new trailer for Yooka-Laylee, revealing it will feature a surprise cameo from Shovel Knight, the star of Yacht Club Games' acclaimed 2D side-scrolling platformer of the same name.

"We're super excited to announce the blue fellow with horns will be teaming up with the green bloke with no pants," said Yacht Club Games. "That’s right- Shovel Knight will be digging in to the highly anticipated 3D platforming collect-em-up,Yooka-Laylee! The blue borrower is quite the chameleon these days, showing up in so many cool games, he'll surely fit right in."

In May, Playtonic said it was hoping to release Yooka-Laylee in the October 2016 release window, but noted it is "committed to releasing games only when they're polished, complete, and at the quality level you expect." A month later, on June 6, it pushed Yooka-Laylee's launch into "Q1 2017."

"As soon as we're confident we've ticked all of those boxes, we'll inform our backers directly of when to mark their calendars," it said.

Yooka-Laylee was was crowdfunded on Kickstarter and raised over $3.2 million. The game is set for release on PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, and PC. GameSpot got to speak to Playtonic Games and get hands-on with the game at Gamescom 2016. You can read Mike Mahardy's Yooka-Laylee preview here.
