That was quick.

Battalion 1944, the newly announced World War 2 shooter for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, has now successfully raised its £100,000 goal on Kickstarter. The campaign was a quick success, needing just two days to hit the target.

Of course, funding will continue. Stretch goals were not announced at the start of the campaign, but developer Bulkhead said in an update earlier today that these wouldn't be announced until the the initial funding goal was met. That happened just minutes ago; we'll update this post when they are announced.

The UK studio already invested £100,000 of its own money into Battalion 1944.

You can guarantee yourself a copy of the game, which is expected to launch in May 2017, by pledging at least £13. Head to the Kickstarter page to see all of the other pledge tiers and rewards.

The multiplayer shooter aims to capture the "core of classic multiplayer shooters" while using the "most advanced industry technology." The announcement trailer above contains some gameplay footage, but note that what you're seeing represents the game in its pre-alpha state.

Battalion 1944 runs on Unreal Engine 4 and lets you fight in real-world places such as Carentan and Bastogne. Some of the weapons include the Kar98, M1 Garand, and Thompson.

"In short, Battalion 1944 is an infantry-based first person-shooter with an emphasis on raw skill," Bulkhead said. "No grinding, no exosuits, just you and your skill as a player."

More information about Battalion 1944 is available in our earlier report and on the game's Kickstarter page.

World War 2 shooters were once very popular, particularly with the Call of Duty series, but Activision's juggernaut shooter series has moved forward in time of late. The last Call of Duty game set in World War 2 was 2008's Call of Duty: World at War.
