New TMNT Game for 3DS Launching This Summer Alongside The Movie

Hack-and-slash brawler that lets you swap between the four brothers at will coming exclusively to 3DS this summer.

Activision today announced a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game for the 3DS, which will launch this summer alongside the new movie from director Jonathan Liebesman and starring Megan Fox. The new game is simply titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, just like the movie.

In the new TMNT game, you can play as Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello, and you're able to swap between the four fighters at will (though there is no co-op). They each have their own special skills; Raphael has brute strength, while Michelangelo is super quick, for example.

The game is described as having "fast-moving hack-and-slash gameplay." Your powers will grow through new abilities that you'll unlock by gaining new levels. You can also craft weapons at the Turtle's Lair using materials you collect during gameplay.

TMNT launches this summer only on 3DS. The game was developed by Magic Pockets, the developer behind last fall's TMNT game for Xbox 360, Wii, and 3DS. The studio also developed House of the Dead Overkill: The Lost Reels and The Sims Medieval for iOS.

Here's how Activision sets up the story for the new TMNT game: "Mad genius Baxter Stockman's mutant and robotic horrors have teamed up with the shadowy armies of the Foot Clan to terrorize New York City, and only Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello can protect its subways, sewers, rooftops and streets from their devastating campaign."

As for the new TMNT movie, it hits theaters on August 8.

Sounds good in theory (the game) I would rather have the idea of a action rpg with the turtles, rather than a hack and slash, but they can be fun, in the end it will be decided on how will it play?

I got a $8.00 off admission to see the TMNT movie thanks to buying the latest Nick Toons cartoon DVD and I will be seeing it in theaters because a) I want to see just how bad it really is going to be and b) I won't have to pay Michael Bay for f-ing up my favorite and most sacred franchise.

quadruple doses of Michael Bay....dear god no. ninjas and bay are simply contradictions of one another. ninjas are suppose to be about stealth and bay is all about uncontrollably blowing things up. i guess nickeloden/ tmnt or tant (teenage alien ninja turtles) needs to make money while being nominated winning razzies just like transformers.....

"I believe Michael Bay is a punishment from god. When transformer fans stop living such sinful wicked lives he will fade away."

WHY DO THEY HAVE NOSES. Don looks like the lipstick gremlin from gremlins 2 with that bird beak thing, and mike looks like Shrek.

I think these turtles are USA government engineered humans with turtle dna infused in them. I guess that is why they have noses. If that is true then I bet $100 mike was a black guy before the transformation cause you know.....M. Bay is racist.

The movie looks promising in a could be good/could be so bad it's good kind of way, but I'm not too interested in any game based on Turtles.

The way Raphael holds his weapons, with the blade between his fingers, doesn't that lead to cuts? The skin on the side of your fingers is really thin, so I imagine it would lead to skin irritation at the least. Perhaps he has tougher skin than humans and perhaps I'm overanalyzing a non-human comic book character.

I liked the 1991 Jim Henson versions much better.

Just give me TMNT 3 for the NES. I played it a lot back in the day. Actually, I don't think I've played any other TMNT game as much as TMNT 3 (SNES Turtles in Time and Genesis Hyperstone Heist tied in second place)... :)

I still... hope... that the movie might be good...

...I just can't help but cringe at what happened to the Transformers...  Good lord...  It's starting again isn't it...?  It just never ends...  When will the atrocities end?

...*ahem*  ...Still... hoping... against all reason...

@chev0948 Honestly, The first Star Wars movie I saw was the Phantom Menace? How much of a problem did I have with Jar Jar? Absolutely none. I honestly don't care that he is or isn't part of the star wars universe, and I don't think others should either.

@Hurvl No Sai's are not cutting weapons they are Blunt weapons you can hold them anywhere. They are Generally used for blocking or trapping depending on the size of the two Prongs. Of course everyone sees them and thinks they are bladed

Turtles in time was my favorite game growing up. I still remember traveling up that elevator early on in the game defeating enemies each time the door opened up.

@Jaxith The new Transformers movie had the best US opening weekend of any movie in 2014, so it's sadly too profitable to go away.

@jeeves635  It's not a matter of director.  It's a matter of the kind of films these amazing properties are being turned into.  I get the same vibe from this movie that I did from the first Transformers movie.

Don't get me wrong.  I very much want this to be a good movie.  I really hope that all of my doubts are unfounded.  But my gut feeling simply isn't positive.
