New Thief confirmed for Xbox One

Square Enix confirms upcoming game in development for Microsoft's next-gen platform, more will be shown at E3 next month.

Square Enix today confirmed that its upcoming action game Thief is in development for Microsoft's just-announced Xbox One next-generation platform.

"The team at Eidos-Montreal is thrilled to confirm that Thief is coming to Xbox One. The next generation of home consoles allow us to create the best and the most immersive Thief game ever," Eidos Montreal general manager Stephane D'Astous said in a statement.

The game coming to the Xbox One is not much of a surprise, as it was spotted on a developer's resume last month.

Other games confirmed for Xbox One today include Ubisoft titles Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, as well as Bungie's Destiny and Battlefield 4.

Thief will launch in 2014 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game will be on display next month at the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo. For more, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of Thief.

Hmm... upgrade the PC, or hope that PS4 and XB1 are reasonable with the 2nd hand gamers. (Especially since I will be trading in most of my 360 games toward a new system.)

I was hoping it would play on the PS3 but I guess this will mean I have to consider buying a PS4...hope it is not like the XBox One though with the potential fee for using second hand games and always having to be online, even when playing single player games.  I wouldn't risk another X Box after RROD issues on the 360.

No 360 version no playing Thief. There is no way I'm going to by the XBOX 1. And I'm sure if I bought the PC version I would have to totally rebuild it to play one game. I'll stock up on 360 games I like and play away.

Won't be as good as Dishonored unless a lot of dev time was spent on it

They didn't mention exclusive in the article, I would have assumed timed exclusive. Instead, it seems this is just announced for Xbox One but will be a mulitplatform game. It's SquareEnix after all.

I really hope they stick close to the older play styles of Thief: The Dark Project and Thief 2: The Metal Age.

It is on the PC. no reason to worry about consoles here. My PC place with a controller just fine if I like that control mechanism or I can always go the keyboard mouse.

Damn slow news day is right Sony. The last time GS had this much news, Playstation Network was hacked and 2 million people had their private account info made public. Thanks Kaz.

If you think Gamespot is bad with this spamming, go to IGN. They are spamming the hell out of the Xbox One.

So far this is the only game that I would purchase day one if I had a next gen-console.

While your at it Eddie, you might as well just tell us Diablo 3 is coming to Xbox One. Saves you the trouble by not making another article.

Gamespot, stop spamming the news section with every game confirmed. Make just a god damned list later.

That was a given. That's not even news , because it was so obvious.

@AlexFili Actually even more time was spent than on Dishonored. Dishonored was basically made form first two Thief-s.

@SolidTy Why would you assume a game from a series firmly rooted in PC gaming be a timed exclusive for the worst console of the next generation? Or ANY console for that matter.

@buzzwah Is it that it's a stealth game? Is it that it's in THE stealth classic stealth series and has a vaguely similar setting?

@FoxbatAlpha Actually I think it was closer to 74 million accounts compromised, but not all were victimized.  Sony fanboys might not like to admit it but this was a bigger fail than anything MS has ever done including the RROD fiasco with the early 360s.
