New The Evil Within trailer shows off its Resident Evil 4 roots

Latest The Evil Within footage is pretty creepy. The game is coming to PS4, Xbox One, X360, PS3, and PC this August.

Bethesda has released a new trailer for The Evil Within, its attempt to see if a big-budget survival horror title still has a place in modern gaming.

Lone figure? Check. A spooky mansion? Check. Weird monster things? Check check check. Right now The Evil Within looks like everything Resident Evil 6 was not.

Lest we forget, The Evil Within is being developed by original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 4 director Shinji Mikami and his Tokyo-based studio Tango Gameworks.

What do you think of the new footage? I find the use of barbed wire genuinely unsettling, and there's enough buried in the trailer to suggest some seriously messed up psychological stuff--weird field of flowers, anyone?--will feature in the final game.

The Evil Within will be released on August 29 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

I'm looking forward to this game too - Looks awesome (in terms of atmospheric lighting and stuff although I hope they can make the textures a bit better and more detailed.).  I will probably get this on release day being a survival horror game fan.

Graphics looks like in RE4 HD alright, which is quite poor to today's standards...

This game is not fucking resident evil its more like silent hill cause u have to run and hidden a lot. I just want a good gun zombie game to play, not another  outlast but with limited supplies.

Why so many people complain about the graphics? I don't get it. From what I've seen until now, this game looks great.

Are the graphics top notch? No. Is the animation the best I've ever seen? Absolutely not. But both are decent, and the fact that Mikami (the one behind the original resis) is behind this combined with the Silent Hill-ish look of the trailers make me expect much. This could be one of the best modern horror games even if it hasn't got the best graphics ever produced.

Remember how many games compromised gameplay for beautiful visuals.

Doesn't seem like you can fight any enemy head on. Some details like walls are not in HD.

I can think of several games that this reminds me of far more than Resident Evil... Silent Hill, Condemned, and Outlast come to mind.

Is it just me or does the framerate look quite bad in this trailer?  The animation is very jittery and unnatural and the textures seem to be somewhat lacking.  I hope this isn't representative of the final product.  I know it's not ALL about graphics but can we at least get a stable framerate?

Personally I'm also getting burned out on the whole mental hospital setting as well.  How many times can we rehash this before it gets old?  Crazy people in an asylum experimented on and turned into crazed creatures!  Oooooh!

This is coming from someone who desperately WANTS to like this game as well.  I am a huge fan of the old Resident Evil games despite their cheesy voice acting and occasionally implausible plotlines.  Who knows?  I'll probably end up giving it a chance just because of the names behind it.

Graphics do look a little outdated... Darkness, contrast, shadows, those are all important in horror games... Horror games are not about gameplay (Resident Evil and Dead Space proved that), its about ambiance, and so is graphics. Better graphics please!

Whoever said it will flop...

I'm beginning to believe that it wont, it looks like it will have its scary moments.

I just want to see how the gameplay works, can you upgrade guns how do you obtain guns that sort of thing.

Usually I'm one of the only ones bitching about graphics being outdated, it looks like everyone else is starting to become as snobby as I am. The thing is...people always say, "graphics don't matter", but when it comes to games that are intended to scare you, how can you possibly say they don't matter? Outlast looks way better than this and I'm guessing The Evil Within will cost more. To me this looks like a bargain bin game, something I will buy on a Steam sale for $9.99 at the most.

I was really hoping this game would look better. Bad lighting and low res textures are unacceptable nowadays.

Almost stopped reading at Bethesda, but then I remembered something related to Capcom. Publisher: Bethesda; Developer: Tango Gameworks. It's got my interest. I just hope it isn't overly cinematic and I can explore without a map.

Good Luck Tango...

although it looks like an awesome game and as much I love Bethesda... I must say...

everytime I see Bethesda's name I see clumsy animations and fat broken character models...

still I'm sure I'll love the game.. but really guys switch your 3d modelers, because on concept art I see pretty nice designs :D :D

I'm just sayin' ... PEACE!

I have played RE4 on the gamecube, the Wii, and the PC, it is one of my all time favourite games. I have been waiting for a game like this. Even better, it's directed by Shinji Mikami.

"Right now The Evil Within looks like everything Resident Evil 6 was not."

If this isn't a tag line to make the game sell more copies then I don't know what is.  Should also mention that the game has no affiliations with EA, now we are talking!

Oh, and the game looks very promising!

Looks promising! Please let this be the game that breathes life back into the survival horror genre.

In other words, I hope this game isn't just an action game hiding behind a horror title.

this is looking good! has some sick and twisted shit which is going to make it interesting. i wonder if this game will actually scare me or if it'll be just another generic and boring horror game.

and no i have not played any of the Resident Evil games. i missed out on all those.

Why does everyone act like Resident Evil 4 was a good horror game?

It was a good action game, yeah...

The 4th one wasn't scary. Just because it HAS monsters doesn't mean it's horror. It has to SCARE you to be horror. This is not something Resident Evil 4 did at all. (With the glaring exception of the first town square, after that... nothing) If anything Resident Evil 4 was a major disappointment in the horror arena.

It was a good game, in fact it was a great game. BUT IT WAS NOT SCARY, there was nothing there to build tension, it was a total firefight all through the game.

Action and horror do not mix that well. You need to feel helpless in horror games, you need to feel like that thing that is going to kill you is going to pop out around every corner, making you AFRAID to even proceed.

Nothing made you afraid after that first town in RE4 and if this game is just like that... I won't bother.

SCARE ME OR QUIT ACTING LIKE ITS HORROR

Almost everything that Mikami did for the last few years have been amazing. Adored Shadows of the Damned, and hoping this can be as good as RE4.

I'm looking forward to this. Capcom really let RE run off the tracks, chasing the action game market.

"New The Evil Within trailer shows off its Resident Evil 4 roots" means "LOOK AT THIS NEW RESIDENT EVIL GAME"

Vodoo

Hopefully that was the 360/PS3 trailer. The main character himself looked good, but stuff in the environment looked a bit weak. Still pre-ordering. They just gotta stop the bullshit of cross-gen development. They're short changing everyone that spent a lot of money on a next-gen machine.

Printul_Noptii

I respect Mikami but damn the new trailer looks rough in the graphics department. Look at how low res some textures are and when Sebastian walk by the dead deer, the lighting seems so off. Also Pyramid Heads lil brother Cube head seems to be in this xD

@synexonline   who cares ,just take a look at all game-play scary footage   ,don't be a graphic victim , for example far cry used to look awesome but i barely  can stand  1 hour of gameplay it was totally S**t

Nightelf123

@Paul9Rhymes  yeah but old RE games are more scary in some other ways.

for example in RE you fear from dying but in Silent-Hill there is always checkpoint to back you up.

@VenkmanPHD

I have played Resident Evil 4 5 and 6 first before I tried to play RE 1 2 3 and 0. I dont get it when people say that resident evil is dead after RE 3.

For me RE 1 2 3 0 bored me to death. It is not scary at all.

People who say RE 4 5 6 sucks are old people who are stucked in the past just like my grandma who keeps on reminding me that snail mail is still better than skype and email. LOL

Bhemont
Bhemont

@VenkmanPHD  It was the last game in the genre that was actually more then decent and above average and didn't focus mainly on the action, even though it had chunks of it.  It's sort of how I look at Dead Space, now that the 3d game is out, I view 1 and 2 as really good "horror games", even though the 2nd was a downgrade of the 1st game, still a decent game, even more so when compared with the 3d installment.

RE1-4 are great, each to their own which one is their favorite I guess, if I had to choose I'd go with nr 2.

SSJ4Goku2

@Vodoo not getting short changed,...would be getting short changed if the game didn't come out for newer systems like the borderlands pre sequel,....but hey can't complain they all are hd systems,....wasn't a true need to have new systems right now, but hey we get what we ask for sometimes, and we have to be happy with it.....but we have to look at the developers and producers stand points,...do we kill development for 80 million strong, just to suffice for a few million next gen systems,....its a numbers game,...money talks,....the love of it, makes people do weird things

Paul9Rhymes

@Nightelf123Who cares about checkpoints....the most important thing in this kind of games is the crazy bloody fucked up madness. And only Silent Hill 2 & 3 has that.

blee575

@moko_mokoreto @VenkmanPHD  The fact that you end your arguement with ''LOL'' and insults to the ones stating the obvious (that RE 4,5,6 were action games and not horror games) says it all.

I clearly prefer old people over teenagers who call shooting 30 zombies a minute ''horror''.
