Warner Bros. is moving forward with a sequel to 2013's Man of Steel, according to a report today from The Wrap. The Hollywood news publication cites anonymous sources as saying this project is in the works, but as of yet, Warner Bros. has yet to confirm it.

Man of Steel made $668 million at the global box office and represented the first entry in the DC Cinematic Universe. A source "close to the project" told The Wrap that the new Superman movie is a "top priority" for the studio. "Getting the character right for audiences is of tantamount importance," the report said.

Henry Cavill played Superman for the first time in Man of Steel and reprised the role in this year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Zack Snyder directed Man of Steel, while The Dark Knight's Christopher Nolan produced it.

There is no word yet on who may direct, produce, write, or star in the unannounced sequel. Cavill is slated to play Superman in the upcoming Justice League film, so it stands to reason that he'll take on the role for the standalone movie, too.

Earlier this year, Man of Steel actor Russell Crowe said Warner Bros. originally planned to make more standalone Superman movies but later elected to pursue a movie that featured both Superman and Batman.

You shouldn't expect Man of Steel 2 anytime soon. A source told The Wrap that the new Superman film will likely debut after the standalone Ben Affleck movie, which doesn't have a release date. Warner Bros. said previously that new DC movies will debut on October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019, but it has not specified what these might be.

On the more immediate horizon for the DC Cinematic Universe is June 2017's Wonder Man, which will be followed by Justice League in November of that year. The Aquaman movie is scheduled for July 2018.

The latest DC Comics movie was this month's record-breaking Suicide Squad.
