[UPDATE] The official Spider-Man movie Twitter account has confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. will join Spider-Man: Homecoming's cast. The original story follows:

Marvel president Kevin Feige confirmed that we would see other heroes join Spider-Man in the upcoming Marvel and Sony joint production, and now we know who one of those heroes will be. Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. has signed on to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Captain America: Civil War will establish the relationship between the two superheroes, and apparently, Homecoming will build upon it.

Homecoming is expected to start production in June, and the cast currently consists of Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Zendaya in a leading role, and Downey Jr. It's also been rumored that Batman star Michael Keaton will play the movie's villain.

We got our first look at Holland as the wall-crawling superhero in a trailer for Civil War. You can watch it for yourself right here.

Marvel and Sony partnered to bring Spider-Man to Marvel's cinematic universe. The movie rights belong to Sony, which previously produced a trilogy starring Tobey Maguire as Spidey and two other movies starring Andrew Garfield.
