New Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS info coming next week

Nintendo Direct for Smash Bros. taking place on April 8. Will we get a release date?

Nintendo will reveal fresh Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS information next week.

The company will hold a Nintendo Direct event on Tuesday April 8 at 15:00 PT/23:00 BST, where it will talk about the latest Smash Bros. title.

Might we get a release date? Nintendo is yet to confirm when we'll see the game, outside of some point in 2014. The latest entry in the popular brawling series is a collaborative effort between Sora Ltd. and Namco.

In recent days, we've also heard that Luigi will get the Poltergust, that the game will feature many items from The Legend of Zelda, and that Pikachu's thunder attack will be overhauled.

I'm really hoping that picture is an indication that they fixed the proximity mines.

They were awesome in the first 2 games.

In brawl they disappeared after a while... which defeated the whole purpose of laying the trap in the first place.

Nintendo directs are so great, I cannot wait.

I hope they reveal King K. Rool as a playable character.  The roster feels bland so far and this game screams for more heavyweight fighters and a DK villain.

I'd expect them to give a release date at E3, which is about two months away. This is Nintendo, though, and they tend to do things out of the ordinary, so I suppose anything is possible.

It may be too late in the game to hope for a Toad reveal but dammit! I can't give up!

I would assume we won't get any solid details until E3 much less a release date but still, looking forward to whatever Nintendo has to share next week.

Hopefully release dates for bayonetta, hyrule warrior, x, and smash. That might help Nintendo move systems if they were the next. 3 months of releases.

The game looks amazing in HD, but i wish Nintendo could maybe change a bit of brawling and make it more like power stone. I miss 4 player co op of power stone or maybe colaberate with capcom and make new power stone on wiiU

Release date. Full roster. Full item list. Full stage views. These are things I need to see ^_^

Fingers crossed. As much as I am enjoying Titanfall nothing compares to Super Smash Bros.

Not even Sunset Overdrive can compete, come on, Nintendo! Give us a release date.

@janetash lol Who thinks that? It's mildly entertaining for a series, but once you've played it for an hour there's nothing more to see.

Smash Bros is, and has always been, the only worthwhile reason to buy a Wii U.

@Stealth____ I'm assuming that's sarcasm. Since they waste most of their time talking about games that anyone with a remote sense of taste would fast forward though.

Not to mention, and I assume this is a culture thing, but listening to that guy talk is frustratingly bad.

Still... I thank god everytime I watch one that they don't let Reggie do the broadcast.

Listening to THAT guy is worse than slowly peeling off your face.

@gameroutlawzz  agreed on the needing more heavy fighters bit. more female characters need to get in the game too. Kind of a nifty twist that Rosalina is both female, and a heavy fighter =) but we still need more and K.K.R. is a great start. I wouldn't mind Wart either. Maybe shift Samus as a heavy (in the suit of course) since it IS a big suit of armor that has to be heavier than anything any of the other characters wear, with Samus only being so mobile because of its gravity defying tech. Just some thoughts ^_^

@bunchanumbers  Never too late! Larger roster may mean harder to balance, but increases the player happy meter =P

Yeah, there really needs to be a new Fire Emblem character, especially since Fire Emblem: Awakening is one of the best games on 3DS. Since Ike isn't confirmed, they could just give Ike's moveset to Chrom, with a few changes. I wouldn't mind.

@samus2005 @gameroutlawzz  haha I agree that Wart would be a truly unique fighter. Probably one of my most memorable boss in a Mario game. They could add so many unique characters to SSB roster instead of going with the same, generic fighters weve had in the 4 previous games like G&W,Lucario, ice climbers, jigglypuff etc.

It couldn't hurt. Iwata hasn't done much to inspire confidence as of late. First, the 3DS had a crap launch. It was so poor, in fact, that Nintendo had to reduce the price and sell it at a loss for a while. He promised the same wouldn't happen to Wii U. Then it did, only worse.

When Gunpei Yokoi screwed up with the Virtual Boy, he was given what is called a window seat. Which meant he was still at Nintendo, not fired, but he would not be credited for anything he would do at Nintendo. A good thing for Iwata that Yamauchi isn't in charge because he, in comparison, has had it really easy.
