Bethesda Softworks has released a new group of screenshots from its upcoming role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. The new screenshots show off some of the environments, characters, and monsters, all of which will appear in the game. Morrowind is set in a medieval fantasy world inhabited by a variety of races, each of which has a unique culture and architectural style. The game uses an advanced 3D engine that supports dynamic lighting and shadows, and the character models and environments in the game are highly detailed. Like the previous games in the Elder Scrolls series, Morrowind features an open-ended nonlinear storyline that will let players freely choose which types of adventures they wish to follow. In addition, the game will include a comprehensive game editor that will let players design, create, and adventure in custom areas.

Morrowind is scheduled for release near the end of the year. For more information, take a look at our previous coverage of the game.
