New Prince of Persia screenshot surfaces?

Ubisoft forum user posts screenshot labeled "POP_ZERO_2" claiming to be from unannounced upcoming series entry.

Over the weekend, Ubisoft forum user blueobelix posted a "leaked screenshot" to the official Ubisoft forums, claiming it comes from a new entry in the Prince of Persia series. The screenshot (below right) is labeled "POP_ZERO_2" and its focus is a muscular, dark-skinned character.

A first look at a new Prince of Persia?

The screenshot appears to stem from an early build, as the image shows the game running at 13 frames-per-second, suggesting the game is not ready to be shown publicly.

In a 2010 interview with CVG, former Ubisoft art director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête used the term Prince of Persia Zero as an internal title for the 2008 reboot-like action game.

The "POP_ZERO_2" screenshot would seem to indicate an additional reboot or series spinoff or simply the second in a series of images. A Ubisoft representative told GameSpot, "Ubisoft does not comment on rumors and speculation.”

In February, a supposed Ubisoft 2012 release calendar indicated a new Prince of Persia game would ship in 2012. Ubisoft called this schedule inaccurate.

The Prince of Persia series has been dormant since 2010's Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. A film--Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time--released in May 2010, but fell short.

I really hope that it is not prince !!!!  I mean no offense to black people ,I'm pretty sure that 99% of persians were white in whole history of persia  as I've never see a black persian in my whole life closely and I'm living there. how this heavy guy can do walking not mention acrobatics????!!!! and it doesn't look like a prince either . what do ubisoft mean of changing prince's character this time?!!I really loved first trilogy specially warrior within . don't know why they don't continuing that . I think they don't even know what they are doing .

The PoP cell shaded reboot was the best imo. They need a sequal simply continuing that story.

The 2008 Prince of Persia was really enjoyable for me, I wouldn't mind a sequel.

Sands of time = good

Warrior within = great

The two thrones = brilliant

-Story finished and they should have stopped making new POPs-

POP4 = joke

The forgotten sands = lame

Any sequels = STORY FINISHED (make another game)

Hope this one actually presents some sort of challange, last one I played you couldn't even die in the game.

I want more Prince of Persia, preferably a sequel to the 2008 one. Sure, it wasn't flawless but it had some cool ideas.

I have to say that if this is really a Ubisoft game then I have to admit that Ubisoft are officially the best gaming company graphically... hands down (dont forget about Watch Dogs too?)

Came back and took another look at this pic and yes it does feel like Moses. This is the mission where u just killed one of Pharaohs slavemasters and all of Moses's Israeli brothers and sisters are watching him in awe. Next mission- "Get the hell out of Egypt before adopted daddy kills you!". Heck we may even get a quest stating "Talk to burning bush" Later on.                 *Sarcasm button turned off"

I really would like to see new PoP game but, this doesn't even remotely looks like a PoP game. If it is really a PoP game than this man could maybe be the Umbaka Seso, that knife thrower from the movie.

I just hope they stop making so many spin-offs that are ruining the series and just redeem this franchise back to it's royal finesse it once was!!

I'm still waiting for a sequel to "Prince of Persia" from a few years ago. It ended on a cliffhanger. What's taking them so long?

It's nice to see that Prince isn't actually forgotten but I don't think that this is proper screenshot for Prince. Just like many people said, it looks more like Egypt (judging by clothing). Also I hope that this character isn't new Prince. This feels more like new IP. Something similar happened with Assassin's Creed, since it started as PoP reboot and ended like new IP.

2008 Got Childish gameplay agree No death no Fun, But srsly if Game began loading every time when i died because OF stupid elika then i would had Rage quit game, as Fro graphics, story and combat those were awesome and i will buy If Next pop will be sequel to 2008.

Well, if they are making a new Prince of Persia (which I doubt), I hope they can bring back the good stuff from the original Sands of Time trilogy. Maybe a some sort of "proper" compromise (The Two Thrones was a bad compromise btw) between the great combat and darker atmosphere/story of Warrior Within, the more "magical" atmosphere/story of The Sands of Time and the speed kills from The Two Thrones. These things are really needed, especially the combat, because it was really boring in the 2008 game and almost as boring in The Forgotten Sands... Ubisoft had a perfect combat system in Warrior Within, it was almost as good in The Two Thrones and then it was just randomly ditched... I really don't understand why, though...

Smells like an Assassin's Creed clone. Ubisoft has been trying to copy that formula into all of their games it seems. Hopefully they'll do something creative with this instead.

I’ve really been trying to avoid these topics lately but this one is just too loud. Why is it that we can see a million games with women as the staring role in an action game and easily accept their abilities to defy physics and facts? Why is it that we don’t even attempt to become socially correct at any point? Why is it that we can accept a “fictional” Caucasian character in a non-Caucasian role but we still can’t just let a “fictional” Negro character participate in the same manner? I mean why have we as a society evolved to the point were we can accept seeing homosexuality in our video games but a Negro character still should follow the role of a stereotype and cannot be accepted as a star or someone of grand importance? I don’t know why I’m still so surprised at the ignorance of my fellow man but I am. What’s more surprising is that I hear people boasting and broadcasting their ignorance. Ancient Persians “were” not white neither "were" the ANCIENT Egyptians. If you use historical evidence, common sense, your eyes, and try thinking outside your box and doing a little more research rather than just listening to the bias opinions you’re used to, you might be enlightened to discover the truth about your darker skinned earthly brothers…

Now that, that’s out. This looks freaking awesome! I hope he’s like a Kratos-slash-Enzio-slash-Nathan Dake type of character. LOL. That would be Dope.

my assumption that this game is happening somewhere in egypt, and you assume a role of a slave... but i don't beleive it's another PoP game...

doesn't look like pop...persians are white ....and also pop never included more than 3-4 characters during gameplay.

Nope, looks more like the Spartacus game Ubisoft is making. A big black guy seems to be a better fit for a gladiator than a super agile, acrobatic Persian.

@pop-warriorwith  Do your research buddy. Ever heard of a thing called migration? Check a history book and see what you can discover. Persia was invaded by the Greeks and many other cultures since you’ve decided to visited. I say visited because you sound very much so like an American. There are many other colors and cultures that make up the world. The term white indicates Anglo Saxon or European heritage. None of which should even be confused with Persian or Egyptian. Good job with posting your ignorance. Now you’re globally known for it.

@cccp3000 Do not forget the classic Prince of Persia games which are canon to the Sands of Time all the way to Forgotten Sands

@Reuwsaat  Right because we all know that if POP8 just had dying animation that would've made it more challenging. After all it's not like they could've done something like having Elika revert you all the way back to temple every time she had to rescue you to make more challenging. Nope just have dying animation but still keep the same checkpoints right?

So what would you say to a game like Grand Theft Auto San Andreas's CJ character or well God of War (sorta as Kratos could basically be cast as a character of black decent)?

@sayondas4 yeah, but you never know how dramatic change can it be if they are rebooting the game again... who knows.. maybe it will give you opportunity to control different characters

Persia is actually Iran so to actually make the characters and movie to be white in the first place was the initial mistake. People are generally not white in very hot places

adam1808

@Daian He certainly looks too heavily built to be the Prince, and the visual style isn't stylised in the way one expects a PoP to be.

pop-warriorwith

 @MrYoungFly

I agree with u bro. but I swear I'm persian . I meant the original persians not the migrated ones . and if we call it a prince of persia it should be look like at least most of persians to make more sense . correct me if I'm wrong .

Reuwsaat

@LightRukia Exacly, also, there are too many checkpoints. Elika was like a cheat in the game, it's like some sort of god mode that killed the challange. What's the point in gaming if you can't have adrenaline? Especially on PoP games, running on the walls, having to match the right time to jump from one wall to another, running non-stop with those huge ammounts of adrenaline, making you miss heart beats when you felt like you lost the rythm and was about to fail, so you had to quickly make it up so you didn't loose it all. THAT'S a Prince of Persia game, the moment when you take that away is like taking the heart of the game, it's signature and identity.

MJV1989
MJV1989

@X-RS I thought they were quite nice and cool... But of course they went wrong with them in the boss battles, that part of The Two Thrones sucked badly... I think the speed kills added a nice stealth element to the game, but they should have made it so that you could only use them as a stealth option or something like that... I guess you didn't like the speed kills then?

MrYoungFly
MrYoungFly

@Viral-venom13  Nothing. Two really great games. Loved them both. But I wouldn't insult your intelligence either. I'm sure you notice Cj was a gangster (stereotype) and well Kratos is the Whitest character ever with a black guys voices. You gotta admit, there's something to be said about that. LOL. Especially when thats 2 games outta like what, at least a couple thousands.

Srdjann
Srdjann

@mickolopi Yeah, totaly forgot about that game. Well at least I was right about the whole "being a slave" part :)

@Metallicwolf29 Persians or Iranians mostly have white skin . we have some black skin people for sure but they are mostly Arab and they live in south of Iran (near Persian gulf) . No offense at all to black people , Just a little info !! It's Not very hot here too !!!

So pleeeeeeasssee , do not confuse Persians with Arabs !!

LightRukia
LightRukia

@Reuwsaat Umm no there is no exactly. Do honestly believe that having a dying animation would make the game more challenging? Seriously? All they need to is remove alot of the checkpoints or do like souls series and have no checkpoints at all and have Elika revert you all the way back to the temple when she saves you like I said. Also what the point in gaming if there is no adrenaline? What? Not every game needs to be a thrill ride to be good there different types of gaes and some are meant to be more relaxing than others.

Also I guess according to you the first POP games aren't even POP games right? Because you do that POP1 and 2 didn't have any those things you mentioned and it wasn't until SOT came that the POP had all that. Keep in mind that Ubisoft also said they wanted to make POP8 more the original and less like the SOT trilogy.

X-RS
X-RS

 @MJV1989

Naw, They're just so clicheand theres no challenge in them. I mean, it's the same glorified kill animations. Gets old/tedious fast imo.

BUt I def dig some stealth segments. It'd be neat if there were some magical powers or sometihng...
