Ubi Soft Entertainment has today announced that it is developing a brand-new Prince of Persia game with Jordan Mechner, the creator of the series. The game, which Ubi Soft hopes to release before the end of the year, is being developed at the same Montreal studio responsible for Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell .
"With Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Ubi Soft and Jordan Mechner are channeling their combined talents to breathe new life into the action adventure genre. They're creating rich characters, white-knuckle action, and a plot with more twists than the exotic, elaborate castle featured in the game," said Serge Hascoet, editor in chief at Ubi Soft Entertainment. "We're thrilled to move forward with the legendary Prince of Persia brand and eagerly await the launch of the next masterpiece from our world-famous Montreal studio."
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will see players assuming the role of the titular prince, who, after his father invades the palace of the maharajah, is tricked into using a magic dagger to release the dangerous "sands of time" from an ornate hourglass. With the aid of a mysterious and not altogether trustworthy ally, players will be charged with recapturing the sands of time and restoring peace to the land.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is in development for the PC and all current console platforms, although it's not yet clear if all the versions will be released simultaneously. We'll bring you more news on the game as it becomes available. In the meantime, you might like to check out our coverage of previous Prince of Persia games.
