Monster Hunter Stories launches in Japan

Capcom has released a new trailer for 3DS title Monster Hunter Stories. Unlike traditional Monster Hunter games, Stories offers more of a traditional role-playing experience. Also unlike the mainline games, it's has much more vibrant visuals.

The trailer is very short and shows a character, joined by a Felyne, taking on a Velociprey. As he goes in for an attack the monster he's riding slips and they very comically launch through the air. Clearly some of that weird Monster Hunter charm will be a key part of the game. Check it out below.

If you'd like to see more similar videos, Capcom has updated its YouTube page with five additional trailers showing off mounts from the game. See them all here.

Monster Hunter Stories doesn't currently have a Western release date, though when it releases on October 8 in Japan, it'll come with six different Amiibo figures. Five of them feature characters riding monsters, while the sixth is a cat.

Monster Hunter Generations launched for the 3DS earlier in July and, in GameSpot's review, it was awarded an 8/10.

"After dozens of hours I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of this adventure--there are other weapons and Hunter Art combinations I want to try, and of course, there are many more monsters to hunt," said Justin Haywald.

"With Monster Hunter you get out what you put into the game, and Monster Hunter Generations is a game that compels me to put in more of my time."
