"They like to get the landmarks."

The earth will be fighting for survival once again this summer, when Independence Day: Resurgence blasts into cinemas. The sequel to the 1996 sci-fi action blockbuster arrives in June, and a new trailer has been released. Check it out below:

Resurgence sees Roland Emmerich in the director's chair once again, with Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, and Bill Pulman also returning to save the world from alien invaders.

In a recent interview with Slashfilm, Emmerich spoke about how the extra-terrestrial aggressors would differ from those in the first movie. "They’re kind of nastier, than the first ones," he revealed. "This time they’re CG. With the first one, it was kind of wiggling s**t, and we had little puppets.

"And now we have a company like WETA, who does the best creature work, working with us. So that’s exciting to me."

Independence Day: Resurgence is set for a June 24, 2016 release. It also stars Maika Monroe, Liam Hemsworth, William Fichtner, and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

To celebrate Earth Day and the release of the new trailer, the first Independence Day has been marked down to just 99 cents on Google Play. All proceeds will be donated to the Earth Day Network.
