New Heroes of the Storm video shows why you should be excited for Blizzard's next online game

New Heroes of the Storm video shows all your Blizzard fantasies coming true at once: Abathur! Mecha Tassadar! The ability to transform into a giant Dragon!

Blizzard has released a new video of its upcoming MOBA Heroes of the Storm, with commentary by game director (and former StarCraft II balancing expert) Dustin Browder.

The 17 minute match--games of Heroes of the Storm are said to be much shorter than in, say, League of Legends and Dota 2--involves two teams of Blizzard testers on the revamped Dragon Shire map, with both teams vying for control over the incredibly powerful Dragon Knight.

Also shown in action are some of the game's more esoteric skin options: a glam rocker version of the Elite Tauren Chieftain, hook-throwing Stitches in a chef's outfit, and a mech version of StarCraft hero Tassadar all feature.

The video is also another chance to take a look at Abathur, the intriguing specialist unit that can't attack other units directly but can temporarily turn himself into any allied character with his ultimate ability.

One of the ways Heroes of the Storm separates itself from its genre stablemates by sharing experience points across the whole team, instead of having players level up independently.

Heroes of the Storm is currently in alpha, and anyone interested can currently opt-in for a chance to eventually play the game when it comes out. There's no official release date. Fingers crossed for 2014, then.

Can't wait for this. I'm itching to play as Tychus. I'm hoping for Raynor and/or Kerrigan, too.

I'm exited for this game. I like how matches are shorter and how exp/gold is split evenly with your teammates when you kill a hero (yeah, it may be less strategic than allowing your carry to get all the kills, but I always hated having to hold back because of that, or being told a "kill stealer" when you kill a hero and a teammate did 99% of the damage).

Well people who complain about META should be happy, less of an issue in this game.

Balanced by Dustin Browder? Nope. Game's gonna be unbalanced and boring as shit.

After having felt out of love with Dota 2 over the past few weeks, mainly because of how 'hardcore' the game is (why the hell should i be stuck in a losing match for up to an hour and a half?), i'm really looking forward to a high production, but more casual Dota game.

Thanks for the blatant ad for Blizzard. Anyone with intelligence realizes this is just Blizzard trying to steal fans of other games, just as WoW tried to do the same thing (everything "new" in that game was taken from other games).

I dunno, I'll definitely give it a chance, I took a chance on Hearthstone a few months back, and still playing it.

Looks very simplistic and arcady, and lacks the core mechanics of moba games.

Sure it may have wide appeal, but I doubt it will catch interest of the core moba demographic.

This game don't let you deny creeps. The game becomes to much like League Of Legends. Blizzard going for noobs again. Brain dead people. At least let us deny creeps stupid dumb ass game developers.

I know some people may be tired of Mobas and I agree that the flood of cheap imitations are frustrating but this genuinely looks unique and worth a look,

Plus any chance to reign destruction as Arthas is too tempting, up there with Sephiroth in terms of epicness for a villain <3

@Saikat1313  Don't be so rash in your decision sir, make sure this is the game for you before throwing away hard work.

@randomkidlol Why do so many n00bs blame imbalance for losing games? I don't see any StarCraft II pros whining about imbalance.

@shingui5 If it's a losing match, it shouldn't take an hour and a half.  I love Dota2's gameplay, but I hate being queued with people I can't understand.  Which is why I'm stuck in LoL.  :[

@ziproy If Blizzard pays to get this info out here, that's good for the site, and in return good for us the readers. Don't be so negative about commercial activity, it helps us make a stronger American economy.

@ziproy  Hate WoW as much as you like, of course in your eyes your reasons may be just. However, there's no denying that WoW is the best Mmorpg in history and statistic prove that, also games are always trying to steal fans from other games.. there's only x amount of games in the world and y amount of gamers, typically to succeed in the market you need an unfair share.

I dislike Fallout3 but I can appreciate the merits it has earned.

@ziproy  The whole point of websites like this is to provide news and add for game. Yes we realize its an add, and if you want to know more about their game this is a great video.

@Xatsuna  Yes. Denying creeps is the epiphany of intelligence. Those who shall not deny, shall be denied scholarships and be shunned from society forever.

dumbass

@IncisionX @ziproy  "statistic prove that,"

No they don't. The subscription numbers prove it's the most successful MMO ever. If it's the 'best' is an entirely different kettle of fish.

@NorseLax09 @bluefox755  I loved playing Hearthstone but I get frustrated haha, lady luck never smiles upon me in card games and card games are predominately RNG.

oh everyone understands what you are talking about but you have not really "answered" their arguments if you know what i mean.

they said best is subjective and do not agree with your criteria of "best". you turned around and told them yes it is subjective, they can have their own views and then continue to impose your criteria of "best" onto them. it doesnt really help...i dont think you actually understood them either.

i agree with them that sales numbers is not a suitable criteria. there are other factors that influence the sales figures. diablo 3 was a record breaker, was it the best? all i heard was complains about it lol.

best is subjective given the criteria and depending on the criteria sales figures may not be relevant.

@IncisionX @purplestone6988  I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I can't just leave that conversation end like this without the truth being revealed!

Purplestone is right, what Incision argues for is an error in argumentation (a really common one, too). Here is a link that explains it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum

I didn't like philosophy is school, but learning about this stuff stuck with me and I use it every time I argue something. Hope it can enlighten some of you :)

That said, it doesn't mean WoW isn't a great game or even the best MMO ever. It just means that many players liking it best doesn't automatically make it the best, because it's only an opinion, and opinions are not right or wrong. And even if there was a right or wrong answer, one person can be wrong, therefore many persons can be wrong on the same subject, So, assuming the majority can't be wrong is not valid :)

IncisionX
IncisionX

@purplestone6988  As I said sir, we'll have to disagree - in my opinion, you may have a personal best and something must be recognized as the pinnacle best. For me this is a perfect scenario..

Cafe Néro for me is the best, but Costa Coffee is the best haha ^^ but anyways, this has dragged on too far so I will love you and leave you :D <3

purplestone6988
purplestone6988

@IncisionX @purplestone6988  We probably would continue to go in circles because best is entirely opinion based. Even the coffee shop that won 'the best' award is a mere coincidence of the majority of people that voted having the same opinion. And maybe since that coffee shop is loved by the majority it is the most successful coffee shop around but even it still cannot be just simply the best because best is a matter of opinion. I fear that you can't agree to saying specifics like the best-selling, you know things you can actually prove, but to just say its the best and that is wrong. And dont say you can prove its the best by the amount of subs it has because all that proves again is that it is the best-SELLING, not the best.

IncisionX
IncisionX

@purplestone6988 @IncisionX  I think you're the one who is struggling to grasp the concept, 'Best' doesn't have be on an opinion basis, it can also be in relation to something/s position in life. for example ;

Costa Coffee in the UK has been voted 'THE BEST' Coffee shop in the entire UK by the majority of people. In my honest opinion? I actually think Cafe Néro is 'THE BEST' - Regardless, Costa Coffee is the best. ( Statistically, I'll still buy from Cafe Néro but regardless, Costa is the best. )

Regardless my good sir, I fear that we will continue to go in circles <3

purplestone6988
purplestone6988

@IncisionX @purplestone6988  it seems you dont understand that the word best is used to describe somone's opinion of something. So maybe WoW is the best MMO in your opinion but just because x amount of people play it doesnt make it the best. Hell you could even say its the best-selling MMO of all time but not just the best, that is 100% opinion and statistics cannot prove an opinion. I know your not arguing that no one can prefer another MMO, im just stating that you cant say WoW is the best MMO because it has the most subs, unless thats just your opinion.

IncisionX
IncisionX

@purplestone6988 @IncisionX  Absolutely, which is why I did say to Shangui that his personal best may be something completely different and that's of course fine :D I'm not arguing that no-one can prefer another Mmorpg. That would be idiotic.

All I am saying is, judged on statistics WoW is the best Mmorpg of all time. That's statistically proven.

purplestone6988
purplestone6988

@IncisionX  saying WoW is the best MMO based on the amount of subscriptions it has is just incorrect. You can say its the most popular or the most successful but best is just a matter of perspective and only perspective.

IncisionX
IncisionX

@shingui5  I disagree, of course you're entitled to your own opinion.

Statistics show it has the largest amount of subscribers in any MMO for (7/8?) years running, Now for that to be achievable it has to have out performed the competition thus making it the best MMO.

Now, of course you may prefer Runescape/Everquest/FF14 etc and say they're the best which is absolutely fine, but statistically WoW 'IS'" the best.
