New Grand Theft Auto V screens, more info this week

Rockstar releases three new images showing off bike, jet, and sports car transportation options; developer planning to share more info this week.

Rockstar has dripped out the latest bit of information surrounding the much-anticipated Grand Theft Auto V. The company today released three new images from the game, and teased that it will offer "more info this week."

Pilot a fighter jet in GTAV. Why not?

The screenshots, posted to Rockstar's news blog under the title "Transport," include shots of a road bike, a high-end "Cheeta" sports car, and a missile-loaded fighter jet.

GTAV has been the subject of much speculation, with many analysts believing the game will be on store shelves by March 2013, despite Rockstar having remained silent on its release date.

Last month, Rockstar explained why it has remained largely quiet on GTAV since officially announcing it in October, saying it doesn't want to spoil the game prerelease, and it is simply not ready to show more.

When GTAV does arrive, it will do so with great sales expectations. Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia believes the game will sell 14 million copies at launch, driving $700 million in revenue. For more on GTAV, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

There's so much potential with this. I hope there's some level of customization for your character...and I can't wait to see what they can do with the forested part of the map.

I heard somewhere that the protagonist was Kendel and Ceaser's son, who is helping his cousin, CJ's son, getting out of trouble, while he's helping his parents keep the garage. CJ had been killed and his wife Denise killed herself some years after that, so their son is getting in trouble because of all that and the protagonist has to help him in the beggining. I think that would be really great and if it's not the real story whoever made it up had a good ideia. I'd like to see more of Ceaser, one of the few true friends you had in GTA SA

Rockstar should just mate with Bethesda and make a cross breed of Fallout and GTA... That would be my day!

Rockstar, what about some new Agent details at least? You are releasing new details for Grand Theft Auto V, but you had not released any new details about Agent, since E3 2009.

The problem with the GTA games is that there are no consequenses of your actions. You can kill 1000 cops, pedestrians, gangs, criminals, destroy as many cars you want. And when you respawn it is like the city has respawned aswell. Nobody knows who you are, nobody are your enemy any more.

Rockstar plays it safe: They just build up the hype and improves on graphics and basically gives us the same game every year.

They should learn from Mount  & Blade Sandbox: Every action has a consequense. If you attack villagers of one country you will become a wanted criminal. The king of that village will hate you even more. You can apology and pay a huge amount of money to make things even. But if you have gone too far you wont be able to repay your debts if you are not very rich ofcourse.

What I want to see in the new GTA 5 game: A simulation mode (optional), giving you inside view of the car, so I can use my Logitech G25 racing wheel. And with the option of not seeing the game's steering wheel.

Consequenses of your actions (like mentioned with mount & blade).

You need to eat and drink to stay alive and you need money. You can get money by doing an honest job or rob a store or a bank if you want.

You need a weapon license to buy guns and if you get caught by the police shooting others you will lose your license. You can ofcourse rob a gun store as you can with any store / bank in the game.

They need to fix their crappy wanted system. Just staying outside a danger-zone on your map should not make you loose your wanted license.

Rockstar need to learn from Mafia 1 and 2's excellent wanted system: If they see your car your car license is wanted. If they see you as a person YOU are wanted. If you change clothes you lose the personal wanted system and if you change car you will lose the wanted system of your license plate.

I also want a proper first person view of my character and when I aim with a gun I want to see down the sight (no crosshairs). This can be applied in the simulation mode.

The car driving in simulation mode must be close to at least Test Drive Unlimited I think, but if I would get what I wanted: iRacing :) That would make driving incredible exciting and you would always improve and driving in a huge city is fun.

Cops need to be more strict: If you drive at read light they will follow you, if you crash into others they will follow you.

If pedestrians see you do something criminal they can call the cops with their phone or yell at a cop that is near by.

Tracking: every pedestrian and car is tracked. By that I mean the world simulates every person driving a car. I don't mean that the game renders every person or car, that would be impossible. But they keep track of where they are and where they are going. So if you lose sight of a car or it dissapears due to the render distance, you can always find him again if you speed up or look for it.

If that A.I person dies he respawns after a few days from his house.

Well, that was a long list I think Rockstar needs to "fix" in order for me to be interested. A Sandbox game that have no consequenses is like a dead city to me.

@Earth2023  oh yes and maybe like in all gta games get to kill cops and women, maybe fly a plane into a police station full of fuel.

or maybe drive a tanker into the police station like a gangster wanna be and blow it up.

oh oh maybe run over prostitutes to get your money back, or hey maybe run over the police and this time their families!

sounds like terrorist actions doesn't it?

well that is all grand theft auto is. a terrorist type of game.

and I bet this will be no different.

you murder thug wanna bes are just sad sorry sacks of human waste.

I am a gamer and love first person shooters against non-human things or mechas but when it is against police and women I draw the line!

raptorf_22

@Earth2023 Have you even watched the trailer? I'm sorry to this in your face but man , if u look closely in the trailer you WILL see planes, if you look into trailers of previous games (besides San Andreas's (which was the 1st GTA with "real" planes)) you will NOT see planes.

So I ask you, what does this tell you?

@Enriq93 Unlikely, ever since GTA IV that R* claimed GTA had entered a new era. By this they mean that besides references as seen in the walls of Liberty CIty there will be no relation between the characters of previous games with the ones of this timeline.

raptorf_22
raptorf_22

@Tylermaxx Hell no mate! "RUN FOR YOUR LIVES" is what I'd say if that happened. I don't know when you picked up on bethesda games but besides, yes being great Freeworld RPG games they are also seriously glitchy and in my own opinion way too long.

But that's my opinion.

Anyway I don't think they're gonna work together any time in the near future since to me it doesn't seem like Bethesda fits in with R*

@interrasteral7 OOOOh loool yea Agent I remember Jack Trenton at E3 '09 with the announcement that "Agent will be coming to the Ps3 consoles as an exclusive by R*" and that was the last we heard of it.

Except for some screens xD

But since GTA V has been in development longer or as long as 2008/09 I still have some hope that Agent will apear in a year or two.

At least while it still is in R* website

@flesh19no Well, Thats certainly some interesting ideas....but if you changed all them , would  it really be a GTA game anymore? Also, Just to point out, You go on ranting why the game isn't realistic & should be made more, then you go and end on the very opposite :S

Tylermaxx
Tylermaxx

@flesh19no I don't know why you are even critized this much for sharing an honest opinion.

I believe you have very innovative ideas, and I believe we cannot move forward of the same shitty formula of GTA IV without thinking like this..... More realism is the new frontier, more of free choices, rather than driving from one point to another.

Open World should not anymore mean you drive-thru a city. It should be more of you are in an open world with open possibilities, rob a bank, marry a lady, become homeless, become a lawyer, become a serial killer, a drug dealer. For this to work, you cannot really do npcs, you have to implement an online system to take place of the NPCs.... otherwise each of our games should run throu immense amounts of data, rendering the game not feasible for offline play currently.

But with online games, lots of people can be in, and there can be recruitments to police, to lawyers, to doctors, to mechanics, to drug dealers.... and you earn honest money or corrupted money to make a living...

I call that a good improvement over GTA IV... :)

@flesh19no "Rockstar plays it safe: They just build up the hype and improves on graphics and basically gives us the same game every year." Not true at all. Its not even annual releases - every four years at least. Its not the same game at all, and most of your ideas are way too realistic.

gotrekfabian

@flesh19no To me this sounds like something I would not enjoy. GTA is all about the fun side of sandbox. Sounds to me like you want something along the lines of a cross between the Sims and Need for Speed.

I get what you're saying though, more realism would benefit the game but, for me, only with the graphics and physics engine. Don't mess with the formula that makes GTA what it is. It wouldn't be GTA then would it?

Muyypotpie
Muyypotpie

@flesh19no I agree with consequences for killing people and people knowing who you are and all but really why would i want to drink and eat to stay alive those are just stupid time wasters

00J
00J

@flesh19no Oh, a few more things, the losing sight of the car bit is realistic. In a big city, losing sight of a car more than likely would result in losing the suspect, that's why keeping up with a really chase is so important.

The game already tracks every car and pedestrian with it's database, it's not like Simcity though, there would have to be a reason to make the game do so much work to track each "PED" or car, i mean what would be the point if you turn a corner probably never to run into that PED again during the game, and if it was possible they would have to have a purpose in the game to devote so much processor time to tracking that data.  Everything designed into a game is looked at really closely, and if it serves no real potential toward the game it's not really important to add it in.  They could program in that every character sits in their house, goes out to work, gets stuck in rush hour traffic, decides to go to a restaurant on Thursday, and a movie on Friday, but if it does not directly affect you as the player it's a waste of processor power and programming effort.

They obviously thought about the fact that you can kill 1000 cops over and over, but once you die, the world resets with a new you, although you retain all your weapons and money which is just to allow the game to progress and not do an E.T. in the hole scenario.

I mean if you accidentally or on purposely killed an important NPC would you want your game to end right there? What if that important NPC got hit by a car or mugged and killed? That would be possible at anytime during the game and your game could be affected at anytime. haha

00J

@flesh19no  I agree, Rockstar has made enough money to take a risk and venture away from standard GTA formula. Maybe someday we will see that. Right now i don't think they are going to rewrite the formula they need a steady release window, and all the stuff you mentioned is very good, and much in line with what i thought about with many hours playing GTA.

From a game designers point of view i can tell you that well Rockstar designed it like this, your character has infinte lives, not the 3 or 5 standard, BUT when your protagonist gets "killed" he respawns, would it make sense "not" to reset the world in relation to him?

If they made it so that your protagonist can incur retribution, then you would have 1 life and it would be a "rogue type" like game and would be very frustrating and maybe not so much fun given the danger's you face in the game, i.e Military, Police, Heavily Armed criminals...

That might be a cool concept though, it might make the game more edge of your seat knowing that if you mess up your character's life and go too far, you'll be public enemy number 1. lol

That would be tense i think, really needing to dodge the police, and REALLY needing to find a doctor or hospital... Really needing food, and money, every action would be enhanced two fold. Like planning to rob a character of their money would really have an impact on your characters well being. haha

raptorf_22
raptorf_22

@flesh19no You know very well that is not true, of course there are ways you can "escape" the consequences but you can do that everywere and in GTA IV ppl WILL remember you if u do something bad

Thanks Mr. Morally-superior person! Seriously, you're talking about PIXELS. They're pixelated figures, and if you look at it that way you're overreacting a little.

@raptorf_22  @Tylermaxx I agree, Rockstar and Bethesda make very different games, and would not make a good mix. But Fallout games glitchy and way too long? So you'd rather play a game for 20 hours and have it sit on your shelf or sell it back to Gamestop for some change? Don't think so mang. Fallout is win.

flesh19no
flesh19no

@gotrekfabian I would call it evolving. GTA 4 was a huge step back from San Andreas in therms of gameplay. I kind of liked the direction they were going with San Andreas. Hoped they would raise the bar in GTA 4, but GTA 4 was all about car and human physics it seemed like, was cool the first hour but then you got used to it

flesh19no
flesh19no

@Muyypotpie Well, it could be optional in the "simulation mode". Wouldn't it be cool to try to survive in a big city and do what you want? Do you become a criminal or do you rob people. And where do you live? In the ghetto or in a rich house?

flesh19no
flesh19no

@00J The game do not track cars and people. The moment they disappear in the distance they are gone. When I mean disappear is when you see them on a long street and disappear, not round a corner.

The important NPC thing would be mission based, so if you fail a mission you could always do it again.

About consequenses I ment how the sandbox reacts to you. If you are wanted as a person or by car any mission you would apply would be more difficult.

- Excactly! Edge of your seat, that is what gaming is about! Excitement, joy, scared, wondering what to do plan your moves.

If the game had been like this with all the options you wouldn't even need a storyline. Just a dynamic world where you could interact and push the consequenses

flesh19no
flesh19no

@00J I am not talking about infinite lives. Normally before games had savegames wich you could save whenever you wanted, even have multiple savegames so you could try out how this or that would work.

So if you die you see the game over screen and you can just load wherever you saved. No respawning from hospital or police station.

If you get arrested you could try to escape or just serve the time (the game would ofcourse fast-forward the time until your sentence is over).

What I ment is that if you like kill 100 cops and manage to get away and just stay outside the "Danger-Zone" and lose the cops is very retarded if you ask me.

You should be wanted until you manage to change your outfit or appareance. maybe you need a new haircut?

There are so many golden opertunities to make GTA 4 more than what it is. I feel it is a failed Sandbox game with too much scripting

flesh19no
flesh19no

@raptorf_22 Did you even understand or read what I wrote?

"of course there are ways you can "escape" the consequences but you can do that everywere and in GTA IV"

- Yes, that is what I said, and that is also the problem. it is too easy and unrealistic.

"ppl WILL remember you if u do something bad"

- No they don't kill 10 cops, and wait a bit outside the danger-zone and you are a free man again. Not wanted and no people know what you did.

Same if you killed 1000 cops and then get in jail and get out. nobody know what you did.

Your Statement is invalid

flesh19no
flesh19no

@Popany_ Yeah but in real life you would never risk playing in the "sandbox" ;)

00J
00J

@flesh19no It does track them in the view distance.  When they exist they are being tracked... When they are out of the draw distance though yeah they get deleted from the memory.

About disappearing in the distance, well would that not depend on the draw distance you have set?

Actions versus Consequences

Yeah well, again Rockstar went through all the development considerations, look at GTA san Andreas...

If it's not in the game it was conceived and tested and it would not have worked in the game.

I'm not even saying  I could do a better job, they knew what they were doing, and they did it.

raptorf_22
raptorf_22

@flesh19no Funny so have I read what you said or not? Its funny that you disagree with every single one that comments on your comment, maybe YOU should read people's comments instead

And look mate that's not how it works, random events such as a player deciding to kill 10000000 cops do not make an influence on the other civilians, do you imagine how much work and processing time that would take? But tell me if I ain't correct that missions like blowing up other gangs hideouts or getting into conflicts with the mob don't change the way the people react? Yes only the mission based status is "tracked" in real time by the game and influences the npcs but that is a lot if you think about it. I see that ain't enough for you but then I will tell you to make your own game and implement all the changes u've mentioned for the sake or realism as you so proudly stated and then tell me how it went for you

Cheers

P.S. Oh so you can escape the consequences everywhere in GTA hm, so you consider that deing in GTA is or is not escaping the consequences? Cause if it is then you escape them in pretty much EVERY current game!
