New Fable novels, digital shorts inbound

Warcraft, Starcraft author Christie Golden penning Fable: At the Edge of the World for this August; digital shorts handled by Fable writer.

The departure of Peter Molyneux from Lionhead Studios has not impacted the flow of Fable products. Fable: The Journey and Fable: Heroes will be released later this year supported by two new novels and three digital shorts, Lionhead Studios and Random House announced today.

New Fable novels and digital shorts are on Fable's horizon.

The first novel, Fable: At the Edge of the World, is due out this August. Written by Christie Golden (World of Warcraft: The Shattering, StarCraft: Firstborn), the book will bridge the events of Fable III and Fable: The Journey.

Outside of acknowledging the existence of a second new Fable novel, Random House did not share further information about it.

Additionally, three Fable digital shorts are planned for release beginning this May. Written by Peter David (Fable: The Balverine Order), the shorts will focus on "key" characters from the Fable franchise and will be available on e-readers.

Digital shorts Fable: Reaver and Fable: Jack of Blades will arrive in May, with Fable: Theresa launching a month later. Further details will be revealed at a later date, according to Random House.

On top of the new novels and digital shorts, a Fable: The Journey Prima strategy guide and a Fable world bible are in the works. The world bible will include content from all previously released Fable games.

@ Deadly_Nemesis The thing about Gears is you can't take the story to seriously, the game is made for violence. The story was never its strong point where in Mass Effect to me its all about story and the world they have created and to me and I was completely lost from the begining on what happened since I had just finished 2 again to freshin up on the story. You can pop in any Gears and ask yourself "whats going on" and happily say " i don't know, don't care, lets go kill stuff." ;)

@drknessfeeds Ah okay, See I haven't played ME3 yet so I was still assuming they would have done what they always do in Mass Effect and you know give it a nod here and there and talk about it. BUT! With Gears of War...are you kidding me? You pretty much have to read the books to know anything otherwise the games don't bother to explain one god damn thing and you have no idea what is happening. Uuuuugh I hate that series >.

"The departure of Peter Molyneux from Lionhead Studios has not impacted the flow of Fable products. Fable: The Journey and Fable: Heroes will be released later this year supported by two new novels and three digital shorts, " How is that not an impact? A game studio, releasing novels & digital shorts instead of games?

@ Deadly_Nemesis I didnt need a book to explain who was who an what happened in Gears of War except for a few characters that were not important roles. The bridge between mass effect 2 and 3 had me lost until i found out who Vega was and that Shepard had been in jail. Something I think they should have mentioned in the opening.

@drknessfeeds Really? You're looking at Mass Effect instead of Gears of War?

You know what, I really think that this would help bring the series back to life, an in-game lore would hopefully pump some "seriousness" back into the games. I don't know if any of you have noticed but I think Lionhead's finally starting to listen to us!

I don't mind game books, all the power to them but don't make it a must read/watch to understand the story "lookin at you mass effect"

I played Fable III at a friend's house to see how bad it was, and when I went back to the original I just couldn't believe it. They simply threw everything good about Fable in the garbage can and called it "Streamlining". Also, next to none PC support effectively butchered the Fable series for me.

You know I am pretty Anti Fable games right now. BUT you know what guys, the books are actually pretty damn funny and good. You should check out Fable Blood Ties. It involves Simon Peggs' character from Fable 3 and one of those mouthy Gnomes. Again surprisingly really funny and enjoyable. May want to give these a shot too?

LionHead logic; "Halo is hardcore.. Halo has novels and animated shorts.. We want Fable to be hardcore.. WE NEED NOVELS AND ANIMATED SHORTS!!" I honestly loved Fable 2 and Fable 3 was ok but Idk, pushing something this hard that doesn't even really sound that good.. Idk, seems a bit brash. Mattaghetti! (Youtube iit)

What it says: "The departure of Peter Molyneux from Lionhead Studios has not impacted the flow of Fable products." What it means: The departure of Peter Molyneux from Lionhead Studios has not impacted the flow of over-hyped Fable rubbish.

Milk milk milk. They should have never made a sequel, or at least make it a direct continuation to the story of the first. Jack of Blades and the Hero's Guild were only some of the story elements that dragged people to Fable apart from the gameplay and they just...completely changed everything? It's not much of a sequel if you have trouble bridging two titles together.

Why does every damn series need novels? Most of them add absolutely nothing.
