Sony Computer Entertainment America has released new screenshots from and details on the latest installment in its long-running NFL GameDay series. The 2003 edition will take the series online, allowing players to keep lists of online friends, and it will also include an "AWOL" feature that allows the computer to take over when a player is tossed from an online game due to connectivity issues.

The game will feature 200 new animations for tackles, catches, and blocks. There will be more than 70 new tackle-breaking animations as well. New models and textures will be employed in this year's game, including 180 new player faces.

We'll have more on Sony's upcoming PlayStation 2 football game soon. NFL GameDay 2003 is scheduled to hit shelves in August.
