During the June 11 Xbox Showcase, Atlus unveiled the debut trailer for Metaphor: ReFantazio, a new RPG from the creators of the Persona franchise.

The trailer showed a mixture of turn-based RPG gameplay and over-the-top cinematics, which shared the visual style of Persona but with a high-fantasy bend. The official release describes a kingdom "fraught with unsettling mystery" in a "fantasy world unlike anything you've seen before."

Metaphor: ReFantazio is directed by longtime Persona director Katsura Hashino, and the soundtrack will be composed by Shoji Meguro, who led the music efforts for every Shin Megami Tensei and Persona game. Hashino appeared in a brief teaser video posted to the official Atlus West Twitter, in which he says "taking on high fantasy will be a fresh new challenge for Atlus."

The game originally came to light under the codename Project Re Fantasy, with news first breaking about the ambitious new title in December 2021. A new website has opened for the game, but it currently only features key art for the game with the slogan "face your fears, take back tomorrow."

Metaphor: ReFantazio set to launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2024.
