A series of new images from this year's Assassin's Creed movie have been released. The batch of pictures, posted by The Playlist, focus on main character Aguilar, one of two characters played by Michael Fassbender. The Oscar-nominated actor is looking pretty badass in these images.

In one shot, he's riding an armor-wearing horse while gritting his teeth. In another, we see a pained-looking Aguilar drawing back a bow, his dirty fingernails clutching at the string. Go to The Playlist to see all the new images.

Assassin's Creed is directed by Justin Kurzel, and stars Fassbender as Aguilar and Callum Lynch, as well as Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Michael Kenneth Williams. The first trailer for the movie was released in May--watch it here. You can also watch this video that shows a stunt actor performing a real-life "leap of faith" from 125 feet in the air.

In a recent interview with Collider, Fassbender spoke about the need to strike a balance between being faithful to the game and offering audiences something new. "We really want to respect the game and the elements to it, but we also wanted to come up with our own thing," he said. "And one thing I've sort of learned from doing the franchises like X-Men is that audiences, I think, want to be surprised and to see new elements of what they already know, and different takes on it.

"Like I said, we're really respecting the very core elements of the game, but we wanted to bring something new to it as well, so that's why we have these new central characters."

Assassin's Creed hits theaters on December 21, 2016.

In other news about Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft announced today that the franchise has passed 100 million units sold. Additionally, an Assassin's Creed Ezio collection is coming to PS4 and Xbox One in November.
