Sony Computer Entertainment has opened a brief Web site dedicated to its upcoming PlayStation 2 sequel, Ape 2001. The game will have the same gameplay premise as the original, as players will have to capture a set number of monkeys. However, this time around the monkeys are cleverer and come in larger numbers. Not only will players have catch a whopping total of 2001 monkeys, but the primates will make the player's quest more difficult by hiding in cactuses, underwater, and in other nondescript locations.

Ape Escape 2001 is currently scheduled for a July 5 release in Japan. GameSpot will have more on the title next week.
