Although the 2012 film Prometheus was only loosely connected to the Alien series, everything points towards its upcoming sequel to having a lot more to do with that classic franchise. For a start it's called Alien: Covenant, and director Ridley Scott has stressed on a number of occasions that there will be plenty to connect it to his original 1979 Alien. A new behind-the-scenes image has now been tweeted, that reveals Scott and actor Michael Fassbender:

This is the second official production image revealed in recent weeks. In late May, a first look at star Katherine Waterston was posted on Facebook--check it out here.

A few on-set pictures have also leaked over the past couple of months. This striking shot of what looks like the aftermath of an alien massacre was published by the Daily Mail, while in April, video footage of a spectacular controlled explosion was posted online. The first official image was the insignia for the spaceship of the title.

In a recent interview for Inquirer, Fassbender gave fans a hint of what they could expect from the latest movie in the long-running sci-fi series. "There are going to be great sets and aliens coming out of people," he said. “The sets are fantastic. Again, the most impressive sets I've seen since Prometheus, which was the original setting.

"It's a fantastic mixture of high-end technology and primitive elements. The way that I can explain it is the same way that Ridley did Blade Runner."

The film is currently shooting in New Zealand and Australia. The cast also includes Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, and Demian Bichir, and it is set for release on October 6, 2017.
