New $300 PS3 Legacy Bundle revealed

Bundle hitting retailers this week includes Gran Turismo 5 XL, InFamous 2, and 30 days of PS Plus.

A new PlayStation 3 Legacy Bundle will begin appearing at retailers like GameStop, Best Buy, and Wal-Mart this week, Sony announced today.

The $300 bundle includes a 500 GB system, Gran Turismo 5 XL, InFamous 2, and 30 days of PlayStation Plus.

Gran Turismo 5 XL is the "ultimate" version of the racing game, including the original game, the Spec 2.0 update on-disc, and a voucher for $20 worth of downloadable content.

The new PS3 Legacy Bundle follows the God of War: Ascension Legacy Bundle, which launched in March and included all six God of War games and a red 500GB system.

I'm a little surprised Sony hasn't released a stand alone system yet like they had for the PS1 & 2. And I agree with others: it'd have to be sub $150. I already have all the games I want for the system, but I'd like to replace my recently YLOD'd PS3 Fat with a superslim model that probably has a better chance of lasting longer with its lower heat signature. To be fair, the Fat did last 6 years, but then again, my PS2 has so far lasted 12, and still going strong.

I'm not sure a $300 bundle is worth it at this point. The console really only has a year left before it's replaced by the PS4. I agree with other posts, a sub $200 bundle would really help push a few last minute sales before the next system hits store shelves.

GT5 might be cool (had a lot of fun with the first game years ago), but I don't care too much about Infamous or PS Plus.  Has some game variety, but like everyone else is saying that might be too expensive this late in the game - they should release a $200 bundle.

The God of War PS3 actually seems like it could be a better deal, but then it doesn't have much variety in games.

Better to buy everything separately because it's cheaper in the long run, honestly.

this bundle is only worth like 150 bucks, 300 way too much with ps4 on its way out

What a rip off!  This should retail for $200.

For $300 you'll be better off saving it to buy the ps4 or nextbox later this year. Garbage deal.

that'd be nice if there was a blue model. Black is too mainstream, white is kind of meh, red only comes with the god of crap bundle...

i'm waiting for the PS4 launch, and I'm going to get me a nice PS3 bundle at a lower price. My Ps3 will eventually break so why not get another one in case =)

Personally I thought the AC iii or Gow bundle was better. I like sony and xbox, but stop with these crappy bundles already.

You can buy all these separately for cheaper.

I feel bad for people getting into console gaming over the last couple of years. The PS3 and X360 should cost no more than $200 for the high end model by this time, yet these companies still continue to sell them at $300. Didn't the last gen LAUNCH at $300, why are people expected to pay such a price for hardware that will be out of date within a couple of years? Let's not forget that we just went through the worst recession in our lifetime as well, so spending so much is not that easy for a lot of people, regardless of what inflation may have taken place.

To give credit where it is due, you can get a PS3 for $250 now (except in Europe), and that price is down from $500. However that price was inflated due to the new format and Sony's ego. Blu-Ray drives are now cheap, so they could easily sell the system for $150.

This is the reason I am looking at migrating into PC gaming. The cost savings involved with consoles is not there, and PC gaming hardware is much cheaper and lasts much longer than in previous eras as well.

Great, now I'm torn between investing in a 360 and this. Any thoughts? And as a warning: I hardly give a shit about any of the exclusives on the PS3.

paperwarior17

This is the worst bundle they've had recently. The God of War one was red and had 6 games, and before that there was a $200 250GB one with all the Infamous games and the first 2 Uncharteds.

Not worth it, both games are made by sony = cost them nothing to give it away for free

Kinda smart move by Sony. The $300.00 price tag for a Playstation 3 500GB superslim console that comes with 2 pack in games Infamous 2 and Gran Trusimo Xl edition. in addition to 30 days of PS+ and $20.00 voucher for DLC.

This is the same price tag as Wii U 8GB basic console. With no pack in game. This is meant to garner the few casual gamers who owned a Wii and want to upgrade. Everyone else who wants a playstation 3 has one. Except the final few wii holdouts who are just now upgrading their consoles. They see what $300.00 will buy you. Gee which one should I buy? Casual gamers are not exactly going to have a PS3 by now.

SpideR_CentS

I would totally rebuy a PS3 for $99-$149 just to play the Show.

Poinciana
Poinciana

lol, those games can be found for $4.99 each on ebay and all games you get for "free" will disapear when your PS+ expires. Sony can easily sell this pakage for $200 and still make profit since it's the bare bones PS3 model

Shango4

@LowTechGeek just send it to sony for a slim ps3 for a 100$ and a fat version for 129.99

p.s. the superslim model is shit.

@awhite33 With the M$' contract, you end up paying over $400 for an X360, an 8 year old console with 20 years old tech.

@Dr_Feelgood No offense but you must have been dropped on the head as a kid. I was at least halfheartedly agreeing with you until your last post. PC are and have always been more expensive than gaming consoles. And they age much faster. A PC is out of date within a year or faster. Much of the appeal of consoles is you are set in terms of specs for at least 5 years. And as I mentioned earlier a top notch gaming pc will run at minimum 500 to well over a thousand just for the pc itself, then another 200 for a decent monitor. Lets also remember the PC market is heavy on DRM, making used games near extinct.

PC gamers play PC for ridiculous graphics, as they are always cutting edge, and usually have the best looking games, but nobody plays pc gaming as a cheap alternative to consoles.

xolivierx
xolivierx

@Iridescent406 since you donT' give a crap about good games, I would recommend you buy a 360 and start investing some serious time on COD

solidmaster

~$250 max I'd pay for this deal. Plus its the new fugly PS3.

SteamyPotatoes
SteamyPotatoes

@kiramasaki @Dr_Feelgood That's not fair to say, consoles age at the same rate as PCs except you have the opportunity to upgrade your existing setup where as a console will remain stagnant and start to struggle later on even with the optimisation they receive.

"then another 200 for a decent monitor"

Could say about a TV which can cost way more than a monitor, many gamers will have peripherals to support a new box, I know I did last time I built a new PC tower.

"PC gamers play PC for ridiculous graphics, as they are always cutting edge, and usually have the best looking games, but nobody plays pc gaming as a cheap alternative to consoles."

Agreed if you go all out but you don't need to at all I paid £600 4 years ago and will see me into next generation something which you cannot get on console which you will have to upgrade day one to play PS4 games, not looking forward to the price tag these new consoles will have which aren't too shy of a brand new PC tower due to the subsidiary costs, which is made back on more expensive games, accessories & services.

If you spend wisely and do some research the price difference won't be much different over a 5 year period and you don't have to worry about backwards compatibility,it's all right there on Steam which can be played offline, used games are bad for developers anyway's, hard to complain.

Either way you look at it if your into gaming your going to be forking out + you can do more with it like work related stuff and post on gamespot :D

@barleybosh @Iridescent406

This, exactly.

Although PS+ is a *very* nice service. Whereas you could pay $60 for a year's worth of Xbox Live(to play online and a couple of rare discounts), you could pay $20 less than that for select FREE full games and you will have them for as long as you're subscribed to PS+. These include games like Infamous, SSFIVAE, Demon's Souls and more.

However, the PSN store is crap and the entire online service is rather lackluster as opposed to 360's. Still, as for actually playing online, I don't think there are too many issues with lag that are related to the specific console.

At the same time, 360's exclusives are crap compared to the PS3's. I've yet to see a 500gb 360(half a terabyte is a *massive* amount of space), but I could be wrong.

If you have smaller hands, you may prefer the PS3 controller. Personally, I find the overall structure and layout of the 360 controller to be much more comfortable.

Finally, I don't have a large selection of games for the PS3 but I've noticed a couple of differences from the 360:

-The graphics are sharper, but not as smooth as the 360's. This is really all preference here and in the end, it doesn't matter much at all.

-I've noticed I have a few framerate and(SLIGHT)loading issues with the PS3 as opposed to the 360. Nothing terrible, I've never had to restart my console, and loading tends to be smooth most of the time.

-Downloads are much less of a pain in the ass on the 360. They don't seem to take nearly as long and on the PS3, you have to actually install the game after you've already downloaded it. Both processes can be quite lengthy.

As for what specific consoles I'm comparing:

I got the GoW bundle PS3 and I couldn't be happier. My 360 is the 250gb slim model. Hope this helped and good luck!

xolivierx
xolivierx

beside, it's not really about exclusive, I prefer PS3 because of the interface, the look, the psn Network, the controller, the battery in the controller, blue ray, the brand. Some of Sony's exclusives grew on me, just as xbox exclusives would have if I was into the whole microsoft thing. If you really enjoy shooters, you are best with Microsoft though. They get a little bit more FPS(in my opinion), and the online play is better. But this is coming from a PS fanboy, so who cares hehe

Kr0w1Nc4rNa73
Kr0w1Nc4rNa73

@barleybosh @Iridescent406

Oh, and one more thing. Unless you're an FPS addict, you're bound to like the PS3 exclusive games much better than the 360's. Fable can be rather polarizing amongst the masses.

PS3 also tends to have quite a few more exclusives than the 360.
