Need for Speed: The Run revs up

[UPDATE] European retailer ShopTo leaks trailer with November 18 launch date, Electronic Arts confirms next racing game.

Shift 2 Unleashed has been out for only a month, but EA is apparently looking to turn out another Need for Speed in near-record time. European retailer ShopTo.net has posted a product page for Need for Speed: The Run on the Xbox 360, complete with box art and a teaser trailer that reveals a November 18 launch date. The North American version of the video (embedded below) indicates a November 15 domestic launch for the game.

A shot of the teaser trailer.

Clocking in at 1 minute, 17 seconds, the trailer shows glimpses of race action intercut with shots of what appears to be a story mode. The trailer suggests New York, Las Vegas, Denver, and San Francisco as locales, with races spiced up by outside factors (like an explosive avalanche or unwanted attention from the cops). As for the story, the trailer's glimpses of the game are spotted in between shots of a man regaining consciousness in a car overturned on railroad tracks. The tagline at the end of the clip is "The race for your life. The race of your life."

This wouldn't be the first time two major Need for Speed games have arrived in the same calendar year. Last year saw the launch of the free-to-play PC game Need for Speed World as well as Criterion Games' Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. In 2009, EA also released the original Need for Speed: Shift and Need for Speed: Nitro, although there was no overlap in the two games' platforms.

[UPDATE]: Electronic Arts has since confirmed the game is in development and the accuracy of the ShopTo listing. More details are expected soon.

Looks like am going to have to wait till they make another NFS game after this one but still its not what i really want to play, I just miss the old street racing games, who knows it might show up later on in 2012 ^.^

I'm stoked that it is using the new Frostbite engine! That looks to be the most impressive engine to date, on consoles anyways! It will be interesting to see how it plays out on a racing title, but I'm looking forward to it.

Couple of points based on the comments here. Underground and most wanted weren't the best games in the nfs series. If you think so you haven't been around long enough to know what great games came before them. Hot Pursuit 2010 is probably the best nfs game since hot pursuit 2 and possibly most wanted as well. Everything else since then has been a poor copy of underground/fast and the furious or a racing sim flop. I do have to give some props to shift for trying harder than prostreet though. I like how most of the thumbs-up here are on comments supporting underground. Most likely, there will never be another nfs game like underground. The game felt really good to play at the time and it brought something new to the series, but it's over with. EA or whoever is making the next nfs game needs to stick to the real roots of the nfs series.

It's time for Black Box to show that they still can make decent NFS games.

@18dboy thrice00 i have played all the nfs series and the most driving style i prefer are from Most wanted, Carbon and Hot pursuit. Well it's your taste but man Hot pursuit was burnout whit real cars. Totally disapointing.

I hope this game turns out to be phenomenal such as NFS Hot Pursuit. Furthermore, the amazing online and autologue should remain as it is.

I feel like one of these comes out every 6 months...

Need for speed has lost its taste, I have yet to play a NFS game that gave me that feel of Most Wanted. If you add all the NFS sales since MW its all crap, If they had spent 3-4 years doing a nice NFS they would have made more money then all previous releases since MW combine and the fans would be actually eager for another installment..

Have you seen the graphics? The cutscenes. This game could blow away anything that comes near it. Its like Fast and Furious game only open world. might be good...

I'd rather be punched repeatedly in the face than play another NFS game......I think I could work that out actually but I'll pass on both options. NFS has been a failure since NFS Most Wanted.

I just want another HOT PURSUIT :(

Personally i think that need for speed needs to stick to arcade style racing. Shift was a decent game but it can not match Forza or Gran turismo quality.

Hopefully Black Box learned something from Critarian Games and make an awsome game as Hot Pursuit. We'll see soon enough....

Could have saved allot of time and money and stuck to this cause this is what we Need for speed.

NFS needs to make a game exactly like Most Wanted. Open world environment, customizable cars, and addicting multiplayer. And please stop with the story lines! They are ridiculous and unappealing

NoDzombie
NoDzombie

so they are doing 2 NFS games a year now are they? ridiculous, why not just take ur time and actually make a good game instead of pushing out a load of disappointments one after another and slowly destroying the franchise! only good NFS in years was Hot Pursuit and even that got boring after a while

This looks alright. As long as it's a game run by a decent story, not a game of loads of races with a vague and terrible storyline in the background. At least this looks like something different and fun - NFS has kind of been stuck in a rut. That being said, I did really enjoy Hot Pursuit, but I hope this one has some form of local play.

I hope the new NFS will have the same driving game-play like hot pursuit and we can customize our cars.

@berserkker and nathace relax, its not made by Slightly mad nor criterion, judging from the trailer looks like its from black box.....so most likely was 3 yrs in development. and shift2 was just using the name .........so yeah relax

I think they're going for a Fast and Furious movie type feel for the game.

@nathace agree...thats why the latest nfs games are dumb...they should spend some time making it.

EA needs to stick with this type of game. They are dog toffee at racing sims.

Underground 2 was the best game in the series, hands down. Tuning and customization was plainly dumbed down in every NFS to have followed since. I remember changing mirrors, adding woofers in the trunk, hydraulics, chop-doors, and a load of other things. Since the first Underground game, NFS has mostly been about customization, whether you like it or not, and it's even lost its "underground, illegal" feel since Most Wanted and somehow Carbon. The storyline seems too mainstream anymore.

I'm still looking for a nice underground arcade racing game. There's none since Need For Speed Most Wanted (which lacks various car optimizations). It would be great if they combine the elements of car pursuit and tuning options.
