NCsoft opens Lineage II beta to U.S.

Free open beta kicks off March 28; testers will be able to retain their characters after launch.

Developer and publisher NCsoft announced today American gamers will soon be able to participate in a free open beta test for Lineage II: The Chaotic Chronicle. Previously, the forthcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game had only had an open beta in Korea, where the game has been available since last fall.

The U.S. Lineage II open beta will kick off at 12:00 AM Pacific Standard Time on Sunday, March 28, and will end shortly before the game's scheduled April 28 release. While characters created in the game's closed beta will be deleted, characters created in the open beta can be carried over to the final game after launch.

The Lineage II open beta will also have a series of specially created challenges, the winners of which will be eligible for prizes. The first players to reach level 20 and level 40 will be able to win "free gaming systems, gift certificates, LCD monitors, and video cards," according to NCsoft. Also eligible are screenshot of the week winners, players who create the best trailers, and the top 10 clans in the game.
